Weather V0.4

Hi Everybody,

I decided that version 0.3 and 0.3i were not to my expected standard of an applet. It was buggy and, frankly, had problems. So, last night, i decided to re-write the whole code from scratch. :blink: And I did! :D

  • code is much cleaner,
  • code is easy to configure for future sites (if any),
  • code is uses less memory/variables/function,
  • docklet is less than the size of any of the old weather docklets,
  • combines ALL weather sites (US, FR, BR, ...) in one docklet,
  • menu's update location changed to include CustomURL,
  • modified the shadow to look like Y'z Dock's (configurable: ability to disable/enable & ability to set distance),
  • ability to disable the temperature to be viewed on the Icon
  • the label is now (and only) shown by format (e.g. "$l is $c ($t)" = "Shrewsbury, MA is Fair (23°)"
  • the autoUpdate issue is being worked on: 87% complete
  • add borders around text like in Y'z Dock: 0% complete
  • proxy configuration enhancements: 90% complete

Most of the italic-ones will be done by today, if not tomorrow. I just wanted to keep everyone posted with what I am doing at this point. The plan is to get the new Power, Drives & (above) Weather docklets released on the same day sometime before June 23rd :wink:.

Thanks everyone for your time/comments/suggestions!

Could you implement a function to detect a whether your computer has a connection or not, and if not the docklet will not load and when connected it will automatically load up as long as you added it manually one time?

Thanks

I already did, download the new v0.4 at http://www.yzdocklets.com.

If your not connected, it'll show the NA icon and the label will change to "No Internet Connection".

#34262

I couldn't ;) wait so I finished v0.4.

v0.4 (06-20-2003)

----------------------

+ Code redesign (faster, smaller, all sites in one docklet & uses less memory)

+ Dialog Box now containes the CustomURL (no need to restart docklet)

+ Shadow enhanced to look more like Y'z Dock's shadow (see xFeatures below)

* Enable/Disable Shadow

* Set Shadow Alpha Color

* Set Shadow Distance

+ Added an Edge Color to the text (see xFeatures below)

* Enable/Disable Edge

* Set Edge Alpha Color

* Set Edge Size

+ Ability to disable/enable the temperature to be viewed on the icon

+ the label is now (and only) shown by format (see xFeatures below)

(e.g. "$l is $c ($t)" = "Shrewsbury, MA is Fair (23°)"

+ Auto-Update bug fixed

+ Internet Connection Check Added -- limited testing

If your not connected, it'll show the NA icon and

the label will indicate a "No Internet Connection".

+ Proxy: The docklet should use the preconfigured proxy settings on your

computer (if any) -- no testing, though

Download at http://www.yzdocklets.com

HOWTO

---------

Before you use the docklet figure out:

1) What site you are going to use (us.weather.com, fr.weather.com .. etc..)

2) Go to that site and try out your location

3) If you get a proper page with the temperature results then use the same keywords that you used on the site in the docklet

4) If you always end up getting a search page (e.g. Paris, France); then pick the desired city and copy its URL (eg. http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/local/FRXX0076) into the CustomURL of the docklet

Hope this is better than 0.3 & 0.3i! :shy:

#34276

KSO, DON'T KILL YOUR WEATHER.RAR, I NEED IT !!!!!!!!!

#34277

sigh... You'ge gone... :cry: :cry:

Albeik, my friend, I can't use your weather 0.4:

you have removed the proxy settings and in my LAN it doesn't work, although my IExplorer setup is right configured.

Moreover (damn! :nuts: ) I've removed my weather 0.3 docklet from my disk, therefore I remaning without weather docklet. >.:rolleyes:

#34279

albeik,

this version corrects most of all the problems I had with the last one the only thing I noticed with this one is that the celsius number is completely off, it says on weather.com that the temperature is 16C and the docklet says 61C, I think this just might be the way its displayed but I'm not too sure.

Thanks for your continued work and support of this great docklet.

#34291

Hi Albeik, thnaks for this super weather-docklet for yz and the better localisation settings. IT WORKS NICE !!! Your'e a great coder.

:lol:

#34293

Great update albeik. It does not work for me though...

1. When I type a custom URL in the dialog box the docklet always returns N/A.

2. When choosing "Latin America" the docklet does not return the corret weather condition/text format although I have typed "Madrid, España" (which is in spanish and the way you must type for Madrid in the search field of www.espanol.weather.com).

3. The docklet will not update again after returning N/A.

Thanks for your effort.

-EDIT- In fact, the docklet only gives me the expected informationn when using United Kingdom from Sites menu... -EDIT-

#34295

Thanks for the amazing weather docklet albeik!

I'm afraid the only problem I've found thus far is how it shows english units and metric units. Possibly someone can confirm this, but when I choose metric units on weather.com (because that's what I go by :canadian:), the docklet icon doesn't coincide with the website value anymore, and gives me english units.

ex. website says 18 degrees celcius, docklet says 64 degrees farenheit, even though my docklet is set to display metric units only.

What's more crazy is that if I set the website to view in C, and the weather dockelt to display F, 64 degrees F on the website now shows as 147 degrees F in the docklet~!!!

It's gettin hot in erre!

(sorry if this isn't the correct place to post this... it's my first post :shy:)

#34298

Just wanted to say thanks for the great update, and that everything works great for me. Everthing has worked perfectly since the first release.

Thanks again !!
