SODIMM Ram for iMac(G4)

Ok i a imac thrown my way.

Its a 15in iMac 1ghz/256mb/80gig

ive been trying to expand the ram on it without having to completely open it up as i saw on this site.

currently it has a pc2700 256mb ram chip in it according to the System Profiler

I know that SO-DIMM ram is usually used in laptops(which i don't have much experiance with)

but i was wondering what would be the largest SO-DIMM ram I would be able to put in this iMac

also i would prob need to know the pin count and such.

last thing is would i just be able to go on newegg or something and just buy any SO-DIMM that will fit the specs or would i need to find one that is made for a mac or something

Hello...

If this is the "gooseneck" iMac here is what you need for ram.

User accessible slot: PC2700 200 pin SO-DIMM

Internal slot: PC2700 184 pin SDRAM

You can find both types at Newegg fairly reasonable.

I have an iMac G4 1.25 20" Monitor .. I've got 1 GB on the internal slot and 1 GB on the user accessible slot.

This is what I've got for the internal slot:

This is what I've got for the user accessible slot:

Hope this helps.

yes that does help went to the apple site hoping i can find some info but all i learned how to do is install ram in the accesible slot.

now i know what i can get.. although i might just get a 512mb chip for now just to get things started.

i take it 1 gig in each slot is max for the gooseneck macs then?

I don't know if its the max, but its the most Ram the iMac has been tested with that I can find. You can find a lot of great info on upgrading you Mac on Apple support page. Just click on the type of Mac you have.. then from the left side select "Discussions" for your model. Lots of helpful people there to any questions. I've got some very sound and helpful advise from the forums there.

Take care!!
