DeskPhoto Beta 2

DeskPhoto Beta 2 (4 Mar 2006)

Hum?

DeskPhoto is an aplication that shows pictures in a skinnable frame.

About

The very first version of DeskPhoto was posted here in 21 Apr 2005.

See the old topic: http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread....light=deskphoto

After a long time without updates, DeskPhoto was completely rewritten with some nice features! By the way, the idea to rewrite the application was basically to test some modules to apply later in Winamp CD Case.

Main features:

- skinnable frame

- system tray

- system tray icon as part of the skin

- right click context menu

- .dkp file association (a .dkp file is a picture list - slide - that DeskPhoto will run)

- you can open a .dkp file from Explorer (double click) in order to start DeskPhoto

- drag and drop picture(s), folder(s) or a .dkp file

- Fade in and out effect

- options to set frame and picture size

- random picture list

- save "Slide" list (right click context menu)

- list of recent viewed Slides

- Open current picture (default image viewer)

- Open picture's folder (Explorer)

- 3 window level: normal, on top and pin to desktop

- invisible buttons: left bottom (previous picture), middle bottom (start/pause slide) and right bottom (next picture)

- opacity (transparency level)

How to start?

1. Start "DeskPhoto.exe"

2. Open Explorer and drag some pictures (e.g. a jpg image) and drop over DeskPhoto

That's all!

See Readme.txt for details.

Most of the frames are from users that sent me when the first version was released.

Have fun! :)

Congrats on the release Carlos, great little program!

Good Luck with the development.

:)

Great program! 10xs!!!

#365201

This is a great app - my only issue is that the frames need to be bigger. As I would like a blank wallpaper and have this app in the middle with a large frame/pic... currently the frames get very distorted at larger sizes.

Bottom right frame is mine (well damn looks like it) - can't remember submitting it - but your free to use it anyways :)

#365209

very cool only thing missing is the option to display more than one picture on your desktop. Very good work cant wait till its finished.

#365212

Tricky

Nice frame. Thanks!

The size issue is only a design metter. I think you could help us with a bigger frame! :)

To create a new skin:

1) create a new folder in DeskPhoto Skins folder

2) copy your frame there and name it frame.png

3) go to Options and set the size an position stuff

Ghostwalker

You can run more than one instance of the program.

In the screenshot above I'm running 5 DeskPhotos at the same time, displaying 5 different pictures. What the program does not do (yet) is save the skin for each instance.

#365218

Superb Superb app!! :D

I'm with Tricky on the Frames issue.. they currently get distorted

#365236

:) Nice one.

Umm not that I'm advocating ripping or anything but for "inspiration" purposes there may be some frames here http://www.frameshow.com/.

#365250

Cyanide,

If I understand right...

A 100% zoom means the original image size (that's the perfect size). If you increase the original size (e.g. zoom at 150%) of course you'll get some distortion. The frame is just a png and DeskPhoto just show it bigger when zoomed. But the image is the same. Let's take "Polaroid" skin as a sample. It's really a small image, even a zoom at 105% can make a visible distortion. It's not a bug. It's just an zoomed image.

Thank you for your feedback!

#365257

Cracka llakin'!

What about image in? Is DeskPhoto more precice?

#365264

Zoom frame in/out? A: Depends the frame image

Zoom picture in/out? A: Depends on the picture

The zoom works like an image viewer zoom: if you have a small picture (100x100) an you try to zoom in you'll see distortions...

Anyway, try DeskPhoto and see the results... ;)

#365266

Oh yeah, I was just using the old version last night and hoping it could be updated.... Thanks for this.

#365269

WOW, I hadn't realized that you wrote that program! I had a copy in my OS X folder, but I didn't realize it was by the same guy who wrote WinAmp CD Case.

Nice to see the new version. Downloading it now ;).

Yes, we're the same guy! I hope you enjoy the update!

How about some image rotation?

DP can help but it can't do it alone.

To get an effect like that you'll have to work a little bit.

In the screenshot below there are 3 DeskPhoto instances. The center is a normal one. Any picture can fit in without trouble.

But the left and right pictures were rotate in PhotoShop with a transparent background.

If you have some patience and make a set of rotated images (with same size for a better look) you'll be able to use this as an option on your desktop.

Dowload the "Pol CCW" skin with a picture (just copy the folder in DP Skins folder, apply it and drag the "car-ccw.png" and drop it on DP): http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/Pol-CCW.zip

Can't drop photos in the last two new skins...

#366247

If you start the new skin without any pictures you have to drop on the pin itself.

It's working here.

#366262

just double checking to make sure that this isn't just not working for me:

when i drag a folder that contains many subfolders, it will not load any images. it works just fine when i drag a folder with only pics in it, but if there are folders (pics within those), it won't work.

also, can you make it so that there's an option to lock it in position?

very nice, i am loving it.

#366321

There isn't recursive folder support yet.

I'm working on a module to do that. In a future version, the recursive folder feature will be added.

Lock position is also on my to do list. It'll be added soon.

I love the program, looks great. I am having one issue though. I have set up a slide show, and changed from one frame to another 'til I found one I like, and then click "apply" in the options, then close that window. The picture looks fine on my desktop, until about 10 seconds later when a white "lblFrame" appears over it and hides my picture and won't go away. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate.

I'm running WindowsXP SP2 with all the bells and whistles, if that helps any...

ppoppe,

I was not able to reproduce the issue.

Tell me about your settings so I can do the same thing.

After restarting DP the lblFrame still appears or the program works just fine?

Can you reproduce with just one skin or it can happen with any one?

#366629

It happens with any skin I try, sometimes while the options window is still open, sometimes 10-20 seconds after I change skins/make changes and close the options window. Currently I have 5 photos from My Pictures folder loaded in the slide show.

Settings as follows (using a polaroid skin, happens with any of them though):

zoom: 125 and 125

position: 12 and 18

interval: 3600

system box checked

fade effect checked

lock off

window level: desktop

opacity: 100%

background transparent

picture size: 115 and 98

#366633

Really like the layout but, I'm having a few issues.

I can only change the general settings & the program seems to either refresh itself or bring focus to it every second or so. Had to shut it down to even type this.

Running p4 3.8ghz, 1 gig sdram, standard intel graphics. Xp is up to date.

Any ideas
