Is the site pretty much two colors? Though the stick-over-circle (speaking in general terms) is a nice effect, you don't want white on white for the part that's protruding out of the circle.
Good start though

Nice Logo! It doesn't have to be too complicated.
Actually it should be: 'This site IS owned by my friend Artёm! WinXPro's way of saying it makes it look like your friend is the possesion of the website 
EDIT: Damn forgot to comment on the design. I like the intial concept of the logo. I'm with Nightcrawler though - adding some colors so that the part of the telescope that protrudes out of the circular background stands out more and doesn't get lost in the background of the website.
Perhaps (if there isn't a color scheme already) the telescope could be a more accurate icon retaining the same concept you already have. I remember having a red tascom telescope years back...that came right to mind when I saw the logo.
My constuctive critiscm is.....
The .com looks like an afterthought and the lines on the microscope will be lost if the logo is reduced in size.

My hopeless ranting is.....
Either drop [.com] thingie or at least align it to right with 'Microscope'. And think about changing it's font. Serif typeface (Microscope) doesn't go well with this kind of modern typeface (.com).
And I say that keeping it b&w might be a good idea. It's simple and striving to be 'classy' now. If you found a better combination of fonts who knows what might happen I'd suggest something taller and thinner (with serifs less exposed) for 'Microscope'.
And like Tricky said: be careful with those lines.
Besides that microscope looks more like a felt-tip pen to me, but that's just an opinion (pretty much like you're friend's that it looks like a cigarette ad - it's subjective stuff, no need to worry about it too much).

How about Zapf Humanist for the main font?
Zapf Humanist sounds nice, although a little bit insignificant to me. I was thinking about something like Trajan Pro http://www.identifont.com/show?2J2. But it ultimately depends on client's needs and company's profile.

It's nice! How about updating this one instead of creating a whole new design? I'd drop that grey horizontal bar and perhaps simplify the font a little bit. Microscope graphic is very good in this design IMO.
Spooky you should suggest that font - its the one I used in my last logo design!! Along side a bit of Gill light
I agree with improving upon the current design - and keeping the graphic and orange theme....
