How To Change My Rom Icons?

I'm using Icon Packager 2.0 under WinXPpro SP1...Everthing done except my CD-ROM icons. No matter whati did, their icons remain the same as offered by XP...ugly.

How should I change them?

it's not possible to change the CD icon via IconPackager, I'm not sure, but you have to replace shell32.dll, can someone confirm?

I'm sure IP can change every icon in 98/me/2000, but not my cd-rom's in XP...

I'd rather find another way than replacing the dll file since I'm using a XP in Simplified Chinese version, while I could only find dll replacing file in english version. That would affect my language GUI and sth. terrible might happen...

well, you can use reshack to modify your chinese dll. Reshack experts!! tell him what he has to do!!

If your are planing to reshack your shell32.dll, what you have to do is open it in reshacker, navigate to "Icon group" and there replace the resources in positions

12 (Blank CD Drive)

41 (Audio CD)

222 (DVD)

228 (Audio CD 256 Color)

291 (DVD-ROM)

292 (Enhanced CD)

293 (Unknown CD)

294 (CD-ROM)

295 (CD-R)

296 (CD-RW)

297 (DVD-RAM)

298 (DVD-R)

302 (Generic CD)

304 (DVD-ROM)

318 (DVD-RW)

with your desired ones.

Thank you all~~the iphile works...but it(v2.1 beta) sometimes automatically shut down in XP~and it could only change blank CD's icons.

I'm now trying to rehack the dll. wish me good luck

Just use IconPackager.

When applying WindowEnabler (go to Shellcity.net and do a search) you can make IconPackager apply individual drive icons.

I'm still trying icon packager. Enabler2.exe downed and i can see this:

Then what am i supposed to do? I'm not quite clear on the use of ‘taget’ & 'target text' stuff. how should i enable the button in IP?

Try the other enabler. Then just click on any out-greyed menu item and use it.

Its got a small .doc with it as a manual.

How about if you use Iconpackager v2.03, then I think you will get all those CD icons appear without any reshack. That's what I got from mine.....after my first configuration.

ResHacker is the only sure way. The other programs may not change icons depending on the WindowsXP version you have (non-SP1 / SP1 ? other ).
