i was hoping someone could help me with this question.
Can i share my songs with itunes on a shared server of the lan. the point is that i want to search for shared songs in itunes so lets say pc 1 has the songs and pc 2 wants the songs. Pc2 opens itunes and searches for a song and can download/play it from pc 1

You can set that in Edit / Preferences / Share tab
The only thing to bear in mind is that in order to access music on a remote system that system must be running iTunes, otherwise its music won't be shared...
oh sorry for the mistake mod and thanks for the answer styrizo so when the host has itunes on and shared i can type the song on pc 2 and it will find it?
A playlist will appear on iTunes pc2 called "Shared Music" that will show all the songs from iTunes pc1.
