17"pbook W/ Bad Superdrive-return For Refund?

ok it is official, this thing has a bad superdrive. It will play a dvd but nothing else, not even the cd from Apple that comes with it or any other cd, music cd, etc...

My choices are these:

I can return this PBook for a full refund due to being defective; and then wait for the new Pbooks to come out with the new chip and Panther( the 15" ones are already being manufactured and will be ready to ship by the end of July from a source).

I can return it and have them send me another one to replace it. ( what are the odds I get another defective one, either superdrive wise or other?) and have a new 17" Pbook.

I can send it to Apple for repair, and have them send me it back...having invested in a "repaired unit" after spending over $3,000.00 dollars for what should have been a perfect unit. Apple users forums say not to get it repaired as other things could go wrong with it, and show up in time. They recommend getting a either a refund or new.

Those are my choices. I will listen to all opinions.

wait for the new ibm chip and panther... a painful few months, buy you'll save a lot of money doing so (won't have to pay for panther upgrade) and have a really fast computer :)

Sources are wrong, the PPC 970 choice has not yet been finalized, furthermore Sources argue that Apple may manufacturing new Powermacs by early next year, but a new powerbook wont be out till next spring. Get a replacement.

OK I did what the Majority said, I am getting a full refund and the company is arranging a UPS pickup at my job.

Its going back, and Ill wait for the new ones and Panther with new chips. In the meantime I can get a Cinema Display, just got to figre out how to get it to work with 4 systems through a USB KVM switch (* my setup now ).

Bye Bye Pbook. I took may pics of it and a movie of it with flurry running, got to love that SSaver.

Either way, with the WWDC announcements to come, it should drop the price of existing pbooks out there now.

Thanks to all for your opinions.
