Exposure

exposuread5od.jpg

This program was done just for fun and as a break from my other project, 'DeskPainter'. It's a simple little application that will display polaroid photos on your desktop.

Hide them. Stack them (with animation). Delete them. Do whatever you want. They're your photos. Why not display them where everyone can see.

Preferences are minimal to keep the application simple. Choose whether to display the name of the photo, auto-start on login and remembering of polaroids. Note: This feature will only work for photos that are on a local drive. While drag and drop works for images pulled from the internet, it will not remember those images once restarted.

Above all, have fun with it. This isn't meant to be ground breaking or anything along those lines. It was just a nice way to spend a Monday afternoon.

Note: To move the entire stack, hold down the left Shift key while dragging the top polaroid.

Changelog:

-----------

Version 1.2.4 - Updated 02.25.06

- Fixed Close button bug. It will now appear on mouseover and disappear after 5 seconds.

Version 1.2.3 - Yeah, third update in one day... *coughs*

- Fixed another possible bug that could cause Exposure to crash on closing.

- Fixed bug where upon reopening Exposure that would occur when choosing to add a new polaroid if there was already a polaroid created.

- Improved auto-deleting of orphaned close buttons.

- Added script to clear SendTo image file that caused a new polaroid to be created upon starting.

Sorry about this. It's what happens though when a simple program becomes...more complex. This will be the last update for today and should hopefully (fingers crossed) be the last until the scaling feature is included.

Version 1.2.2 - Updated 02.22.06

- Fixed a possible bug that could occur when deleting polaroids.

- Added auto-deleting of orphaned close buttons that would cause Exposure to crash on closing.

Version 1.2.1 - Updated 02.22.06

- Added 'Send to --> Exposure' function (vbs script included in zip). Place this script in the 'SendTo' folder located in the Documents and Settings folder: ie. 'C:Documents and SettingsYour User Name Goes HereSendTo'. This folder is hidden so you'll have to turn on 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' in Folder Options.

- Added close button to delete individual polaroids.

- 'Stack polaroids' now checks for the first polaroid available to stack under.

- Filename bug should be fixed (hopefully).

If you happen to encounter any problems, just select 'Delete all polaroids'. That should clear up any errors.

Hehe.. I like this! :)

Simple and functional. Now I have somewhere to put all those pics of my girl ;)

#361109

very nice! are they skinnable? can they rotate?

#361112

He did say it was a simple program..its not skinnable and they can't rotate...

But maybe they can be added for v2 ;) *hint hint*

#361114

Very cool Zaft. I was going to say that's my girlfriend but then I remembered my wife would kick my ass. :P

I'm not sure about skinning (how many different colors do polaroids come in?) but I'll definitely add in Rotate...perhaps ;)

#361118

Small bug: When I start up the program the polraoids show the filename even tho I have not enabled that option.

To fix this I select options and click ok and the filenames go away again. But I dont wanna do this every time I start up the program cos im too lazy ;)

#361256

What a cool idea!!

#361260

It's a cool thing! Thanks!

Please add a ZOOM, the " polaroids " are too small by 1600x1200 screens...

And how to add something like the Windows Explorer context menu entry "Send to -> Exposure"

#361345

Great to hear all the comments from everyone! It's amazing to see what I thought of as a fun, little program get such a warm welcome. :D

@Zaft: Thanks for letting me know. It'll be fixed in the next update which should be available late tonight/early tomorrow morning along with a few added features - namely, deleting of individual polaroids ala a floating close button in the corner of the photo.

@Landvermesser: Thanks for the suggestions! I'm definitely going to add in a zoom feature, it just won't be in the next update.

I would love to add in a "Send to -> Exposure" feature. I've been searching google for hints on how to go about this. Since I can't directly hook into Exposure (vbscript is limiting in this way) I was thinking of going down a route where you'd select an image, that image's path gets sent to a hidden text file that Exposure would look at for changes and then if so, that would set off an 'Add polaroid' script inside Exposure. It's a bit...of a roundabout way of going about it but it's the only way I can think of doing it.

If you have any suggestions of other possible ways of doing it, I'm all ears.

@Everyone: While I don't want this program to get bloated and beyond what was originally intended as a simple, fun application, I am open to suggestions like Landvermesser's...

So if you have any, let me know and I'll see what I can do to add them in.

#361350

I'm guessing this is a DesktopX Pro Gadget so it would be quite a bit of code for it to except filenames from Send To or another command line approach.

Nice little app though.

#361353

Thanks sranshaft :). Its good.

#361379

@Landervesser and all: Good news to report! I've been able to to setup the SendTo --> Exposure feature. Now all you have to do is right-click the image, select SendTo --> Exposure and a polaroid will automatically appear! :D All that needs to be done is move a file to the SendTo folder...

I'll give a complete step-by-step instructions on how this is done (if you don't know how to add a shortcut to the SendTo menu item - it's very simple) when I upload the new version in the next hour or so.

#361568

Nice new version! Can't wait until the next update ;).

#361617

Fantastic! This just keep getting better! :):)

#361635

very neat and smooth.... good job!

WASSUP MY MAN DEELO!!!!!

#361640

Sorry about the multiple updates today. This should be the last one with all bugs fixed for a while.

Please redownload if you've previously downloaded 1.2.1 or 1.2.2. There wasn't many who did so it shouldn't hopefully be much of a hassle to everyone.

#361655

Multiple updates? I love it when it's fun to use and simple like this! Thanks a bunch!

*SLAPS RAUL's ARSE* where ya been mate!!
