Virtual Pc

I finally was able to istall Windows 2000 from an old school disk, and then install XP pro. It works great for me, and I was wondering if you should or shouldn't install many of the programs that you would normally use on your PC?? Would it crash the computer, or mess up the computer in any way???

Sorry about the double post, but the edit button was not functioning for me. Anyway, I need some more help, how do you install additions in Virtual PC, like the dock-start menu, and the PC programs in the dock function?? I would like to know how to do this, as it would greatly aid the functionality of my virtual machine, however its not an absolute necessity, but please post something. Thanks in advance. ;)

I can't really help you with that problem. You can install all the programs from your PC onto the Virtual Machine...BUT....your video/sound/etc cards are all emulated. So you may not have the specs you want. Plus, they won't be going as fast as you like as Virtual PC is a tad sluggish.

there is a little icon (amond the cd and drive icons) near the bottom of the window. Click it and select install additions..

Thanks Taha I got the additions and the dock thing. Like you said Windows 2000 runs a lot better than XP, but for compatability issues I leave XP on my system too. But they take up a lot of HD space together, like 1.5 gbs, is there any way to cut this down other than defragging or deleting either of the PCs.

i dont think you can cut it down without uninstalling programs from the Guest OS (win2k or xp)

because first it has to make the filesytsem in the image file.. takes up space.. then it installs the OS takes up space and what ever else you have in it...

Well on my normal PC, XP or Windows 2000 as a base install without programs take at least 1 GB each.

So, that is just the size of the recent OS'es.

If you really need smaller OS'es, try NT 4 or Windows 98. Other than that, not much else I can say.

well, I have Windows 98, and woh sala bara chikna chalta hay ;)

nrzero, you can translate that :P
