You can also use tweakUI if you dont have XP professional

There is also a program called Places Bar Tweaker, Haven't used it myself, I prefer tweak ui, but if you for some reason want to use another app, here's one, and a whole bunch of tweakers.
NC, on that link you provided it says to open gpedit.msc. When I try to open that from run i get an error saying cannot be found. Is there an alternate to that? I'd like to try this from the reg before I have to use a tweaking prog. Thanks.
gpedit.msc doesn't exist on XP Home, which is what I assume you must be using.
Don't feel bad about using TweakUI, as it's an excellent program.
