Hot Weather

I think the arrow is the direction of the wind.

But I've never noticed if it changes.

I thought that at first...but looking at the screenshots posted at Devart and my wind direction, the "text descriptions" are directly opposite - yet the arrows all point in the same direction

#381322

I just looked at the code. (easier that way)

It seems to be ALWAYS the same direction. I think its suppose to be an icon that represent Wind Direction. Hence the arrow to mean direction. It never changes, just liket the water droplet and the umbrella.

#381325

Ahhh...thanks for delving into the code....would be WAY cool if it actually pointed from the wind direction AND if the water droplet and umbrella changed according to conditions

#381329

Could be done quite easly too. If Thewer needs help he knows where to ask :)

#381375

which file do we click on to open the hot weathe???

#381403

Hi,

sorry for answering that late, I was quite busy the last few days (applications...).

@pcm:

err - quite a little absentminded from me:

I also uploaded the desklet at deviantArt and they (at least write that they) need *.zip-files. Just forgot to rename it before uploading it to your site...

Great idea about the fonts - what path in the *.aveinst-file do I need to install the fonts? ...avescripterfonts or ...avescripterhotweatherfonts?

@hallf:

Well, yes - the arrow is only an icon/symbol for 'wind direction', not the direction itself. It really would be a good idea to change that, just haven't got a clue how (something like if windDir=SW rotate arrow ...° ??). Sure it can be done easier without a lot of 'ifs' (N, NW, NNW, ...).

@pcm: You're sure you want to offer me help with the code?? Sounds like a lot of work with me... ;)

@Fighter:

Well, as I said, I unfortunately forgot to rename the file, so first you'll have to get hotweather.zip here:

http://avedesk.philc.ca/modules/PDdownload...hp?cid=8&lid=68

Then rename hotweather.zip to hotweather.aveinst and doubleclick the file while AveDesk is running. It will install automatically then...

#382272

The fonts is in your resource. ..avescripterhotweatherfonts ? But on my new rebuilt system it doesn't seem to work anymore :(. Need to see why.

#382362

thewer:

Thanks....you answered one of my questions....how 'bout the other two?

I just noticed that even if I change the temp display from "C" to "F" that wind velocity is still reported in KM/H or Kft/H instead of MPH

And at the bottom, are those two letters supposed to be wind direction? Right now mine says "WN"...what is that? wind from the west-north?

#382528

Hi -

sorry, was in a bit of a hurry and didn't get the last part...

The letters at the bottom indicate the wind direction, WN should be mostly from the west, partly northern winds... I don't know yet how to translate this into turning the arrow, but I'll try that soon. You are right about the wind velocity - I must admit I never thought about it, I only changed the existing weather desklet to include this value. It's a good idea to change that simultaneously with the temperature. Will include that with the next version, just need some time - bit busy right now and ... on holidays next week! :)

#383697

ok so I renamed the zip file to

hotweather.aveinst

but when i double clicked..it did not install????its going into zip file???I do have Avedesk running

#383702

Make sure you have the latest version of avescripter installed.

#383727

Hi -

another thing to try maybe:

Did you run the register.bat?

It's in your (C:programs...?) ...AveDesk13 folder (where there's the avedesk.exe also) : Doubleclick and run it, then doubleclick the hotweather.aveinst again...

#383788

With the current version of avescripter, you'll need to add ongetdata="Redraw(true);" in your XML area.

The old version would auto redraw, but this caused too many redraws to occur if there was some processing done in the script too.

The new version doesn't do the redraw automatically, giving more control, but you need to add that code on those events if you want it to work like it use to.

Sorry about the change in behavior.

hey great work on the desktlet..im kinda new to avedesk but ive gotten the dock to work and other goodies..i got your hotweather to come up and i typed in my city (New york, New york) and chose my skin etc etc..and then when i click done..the weather animation changes but i dont see anything that sais my city..or no numbers or anything..the only thing that changes is the animation..am i doing something wrong?

#401257

Hi Gaatz -

if you don't see any letters in the desklet, the solution is probably quite easy -

the font I use for the desklet isn't installed at your computer...

The font ("Digital") is included with the desklet, there should be a zip-file in the desklet's folder (...AveDeskDeskletsAveScripterHotWeather...). Open it and copy the content to C(??!):WindowsFonts and restart AveDesk.

You can also just change the font in the desklet's options, same like the city...

Hope this'll help! :)

#401295

i just dled the font file and put it in my font folder..but for some reason it still does the same thing..i redid the location and messed around with the type also..and its still blank..i also checked the font folder and i saw that the font was correctyl installed in the font folder..and i made sure i exited out of avedesk afther it was done...do you have any idea what else is the problem?..or if im doing nething wrong..because the whole 5 day forecast works so im sure it isnt that i installed it wrong because if i did im sure it wouldnt have worked...ill mess around with it some more but if you can give a response it would be greatly apprieacted..thanks again..and btw your stuff is awesome great animation work ^_^

nvm i i got it to work..i just used some other fonts...thanks for the help though =)

#401310

Fantastic - I really like it :)

#439071

Hey, thanks for the great weather script. I have a question though... can you tell me what each icon means?

I notice an umbrella and a raindrop and both have percentages next to them.

Thanks

#439800

Hi there -

@Gaatz:

Sorry for the late reply, didn't notice that the thread was active again... :(

@Warpy:

Thanks a lot for your comment. :)

The small temperatures right of the big one are the maximum and minimum temperature of the day,

the umbrella shows the chance for rain, the water drop stands for humidity and the arrow for the wind speed (below is the direction). :)

#439866

plz excuse my ignorance in this question...I'm new to avedesk.

But, I love this desklet...but I cannot figure out how to change it to my local weather. I've searched the Desklet Properties with no luck.

#504013

Hi there -

no worries. :)

The 'Desklet Properties' are for general settings only.

For specific desklet settings (not just Hot Weather) there normally is a special options dialog.

For that you have to 'flip' the desklet, which is normally achieved by pressing a special button (a bended arrow) or selecting an extra menu entry.

For Hot Weather there's an arrow at the top of the main temperature.

There's already 'HotWeather 2' out there (here the options are accessed by right-clicking the desklet and selecting the HotWeather options):
