[req] Media Player Docklet!

The coolest thing ever about the dock is its ability to play little minimized quicktime movies.

I want to do that. Maybe a tiny quicktime or mpg player located in the dock that looks like the little quicktime player icon?

I WANT TINY MOVIES!

Yeah, that'd be cool. If albeik or siwu have the time to even plan this, it will become something really nice. But lets not give them too much pressure since they may have other projects going on, at least albeik has.

About the dockelt, I'm just afraid of the resource usage. It could get quite high. But hey, we don't play games and watch movies at the same time, do we?

am i wrong? i think the tiny qt player is 'only' a realtime qtplayer screenshot in the taskbar-part of real osxdock. it's not a dockling.

maybe yzdock taskdocklet will be able to play movies on the dock in the distant future :naughty: i hope so.. everybody says yamaguchi won't build the way for such functions in the dock

btw has anybody experienced an awful and terrible flickering of the dock when playing a movie with win32quicktime? its horrible on my system

The oSX systems Ive been on actually play the movies in the dock...its pretty trippy. I know WMP9 does thios in the taskbar now...I'll have to take a screen I guess.

how does it work? xp or longhorn? i've never used wmp8/9, [i use mpc].

and what about that qt? is it playing qt in the dock other way than qt is minimized to the dock?

Have you seen the little icon that looks like a small Quicktime app? Well the movie plays in something similar inside the dock when the movie is minimized.

Very cool.

#33332

that's right, if you minimize QT while playing a movie it continue playing it in the dock like a thumbnail. Not very useful, but it's sooooo cool

I can assure you its VERY cool. :P :boob_shake:

this is what i was talking about. it's not a dockling but a feature of the real docktaskbar - minimized windows are really minimized not only screenshots nor titlebars. :canadian:

deadzombie,

You are right, That is an awesome little dock'let'. I'll see if I can get you some screenies today, if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

I guess you can say this is an Active Dock Icon (I just thought of that term  ). There are several of those in the OSX dock, like this qt one and like that paperfeeding printer icon, when you print. It would be nice if someone can make these for the pc docks.

@sen - yeah, I agree the Windows versions of Quicktime recently haven't lived up to their Mac counterparts. The program is slow to load (and/or slows down other things) and can make windows in general flicker, I've noticed...ugh.

The feature of WM9 that's been mentioned provides controls when it's minimized to the taskbar that look "embedded" in the taskbar, and it can pop up a little window with a mini version of a movie you're watching or the visualization for a song...it's neat, but I don't use it that much.
