Just about sense the first release of Y'z Dock I have been wanting a feature that would allow moving images like gif but with png, and now since the docklet sdk has been released would it be possible to create a docklet that would allow animated images? I'm thinking like the recycle bin except this image continously changes to other png images only while the dock is highlighted or visible. For low end gfx card like mine though it would probably take a tow especially with it redrawing the image to new images as it magnifies. I wish I could code it myself but I haven't read the sdk yet and I have yet to program anything other than a lil bit of java that I still don't understand and I know more about it than my java teacher at school o0.
Animation Docklet?
129 views but no takers OO come on don't you want to see your favorite gif image moving around in you dock? plz can't somebody try and code this?
maybe nobody has seen it yet. it's a cool idea IMO.
Well, I am currently doing some research in order to make 3d in docklets ![]()
it is possible it seems, but we have some issues to overcome ![]()
i'll let you know ![]()
3D....OO that seems like it'd be tough......and I was just wantin moving 2-D you could just use 2-D images make them move to look like it is 3D =)
Good to hear that siwu! No hurry, take your time with it, whatever people say. This could become something spectacular. :own:

Personally, this attitude bugs me. We have about 1800 members here (unless my math is wrong, I can't really check, and I'm not gonna count out 182 pages of member names). Just because you got almost 200 threadviews means jack. That could easily have been 200 people who know nothing about making docklets and didn't wanna waste forum space by saying so in a reply.
Just practice a little patience, is all I'm saying...
But I guess this is better than posting multiple threads on the subject...
Woah kewl, I would love to see that! I think an Animation SDK should be released when someone figures out how to do this! Just image! When hovering over the weather docklet, if its raining, little raing droplets start moving! The 8Ball could fade its answer in and out! MailCheck could do a little flip-a-roo thingey in your dock! The possibilities are endless, I say, whenever someone has some free time and knows the SDK, lets try it! Of course, please no one rush, I mean, the real world is a LOT more important then having my weather docklet shower sprinkles onto my desktop lol.
Cerebal the only reason why I reposted about getting the 129 views and no replies was because this thread ended up on the second page and I was afraid that the few people that do know how to make docklets may not see this thread and it'd be ignored. So let's not start a flame war here.
Also I think there is a moving PNG format called MNG? I'm not sure I know in the past when I use programs to make like a short avi clip in image frames it'd sometimes make each frame into PNG I guess cuz it is the highest quality lossless format and most compressed. I wouldn't think an animation docklet would be too much of an under taking considering ICO format was added into the dock later by M. Y. So there should be away to add gif and mng support.

Sorry I went a little off the hook there, I was having a stressful night.. you might notice I flamed someone else in another thread not two minutes after posting here.. lol..
I can understand your reasoning for saying that... to clarify next time, if you just leave a line and type this:
bump.
That's commonly understood as "I'm bumping this thread back up so that people can read it".
Whoops, thats the other thing that I forgot to mention! We could have PILES from the dock if we work this animation thing right! WOULDNT THAT ROCK? I forgot to put how that could be one of the benefits.
that aiight, cerebal next time I'll keep in mind that bump thing
I did a lil more searching and I found some more info on MNG it seems very lil stuff supports it.....nothing on my computer can open a MNG file not even photoshop! http://www.libmng.com/ they have quite a bit of info that could help build MNG support for the dock. I supose someone could also make a docklet for gif animation support but the MNG format would be a lot more high quality. The simplest way though may be just to create a docklet that opens a series of PNG images continiously for the animation effect out of a folder like icons/animations/taz/ then have files in it like 001.png, 002.png and so on and also an ani.ini file that specifies for each animation what images display when and for how long. Animations would probably take up a lot of resources so settings like only animate during mouse over or only when visible would be helpful. If only coding docklets were as easy as html oo.
Deviever... Isnt the "Poof" effect a GIF? Thats a GIF and seems to be rather high quality.. of course, it is just black and white lol so maybe im wrong. I however dont think that the MNG thing is a good idea because like you said, Photoshop doesnt even support it, so you will see very few people even attempting to make this animated docklets/icons. I think your defiently steering this in the right direction though, keep it up!
poofs are pngs. <_<
the poof you're talking about has 5 states.
its height is 128 pixel, width is 640(128x5) pixels.
