Creating an installer for a GAIM transformation pack.

Well, basically, I am creating a transformation pack for GAIM to make it look like AdiumX. I just wanted to know how to create an installer that would replace all the original icons and such in the GAIM program files. I also want to create backup and an uninstaller (so that when the user uninstalls the pack, all the original icons and skins would be default.)

Any suggestions?

Edit: Of course, I will ask permission from the AdiumX staff before releasing anything.

For the moment I don't know but I will search tomorrow I remember I've seen something like you want but I don't remember where...

I'm very interrested in your project

Could you post a sreenshot of the result please ?

Sure, once I completely port all the sounds, smileys, and icons. So far, it's looking good. I might just use a Nullsoft installer for this.

Too bad GAIM doesn't have a customizable theme, so I can complete the look. I heard that version 2 will have one.

here's a screenshot from this morning when I started the project:

Of course, that's not what its going to actually look like. That's only a couple of changes.

I would be glad to see (and use, of course) AdiumX skin for Trillian Pro.

Anyway, if your project is related to resource hacking, you might use Restorator (it can produce higly profesional resource patches). If you just want to copy all files to their locations, use common installers like NSIS, InnoSetup, GhostInstaller or so (Google 'em, they are all free). Good luck!

Thanks, I'm using NullSoft. I just want to create an uninstaller (which already has the original files) and when the user uninstalls the pack the original files go into place without damaging the program.

Hmm, looks like backup feature. Seen in commercial installers like Wise or so... Maybe, Microsoft Installer is able for this too (it defenitely should), so look for MSI creating tools.

Alright, I'll take a look into that. Thanks for the advice RIMMER.

ooo i would like a copy of that once you do get it workin!!

i already got an installer for it ;). you just won't be able to uninstall the pack. if you wish to uninstall it, then you will have to uninstall then reinstall gaim again.

i am not much of a developer, but i think that this project would be very useful.

id be perfectly fine with having to uninstall and reinstall gaim if it will look like adium...can i have the installer...if you don't mind that is...

Do you happen to have a screenshot of your customizesd gaim?

Funny that gaim needs a trandósformation pack or whatever to look like adium, which is a frontend for gaim. :)

I hope this is still going to be released. Ive never liked all the setup necessary with Miranda, Gaim is so much more simple.

Was this installer ever made public!! I want the adium look alike!!!

Yea same here, I absolutely love the way Adium looks, but also don't want to deal with Miranda.

And just letting you know, your screenshot from a few posts above doesn't work, but judging on your ideas, it sounds like it'll look great!
