Drives Docklet

Hi everybody,

I have released a beta version of the Drives docklet. Download it and try it out at

http://www.yzdocklets.com/.

Please read the "drives_readme.txt". Atleast the issues & problems section before you comment on the docklet.

This docklet is more-or-less a try out to see if I can do something like this. So don't expect too much! ;) You cannot configure it in anyway at the moment.

Please post comments/suggestion/questions here or email me!

Thanks everyone for your support

Wow!!!, great news, thanks Albeik for your work, thanks very much. I love this new docklet, maybe the red bars would be change to grey o transparent in the future, no?

Btw, if you want two drives simultainely, you can make a copy of the drives folder in your docklets place, rename the folder and dll to drives2 for example, and you can put two drives like this:

drives.jpg

It´s only a suggest, I supose you know too

Thanks again for this greats docklets

Thanks max for trying it out.

Please suggest anything you have in mind, even different icons... as you can see I couldn't find a good icon representing a RAM Disk.

This version has the colors change from red, yellow, green to blue in a Gradient manner depending on the percentage.

The background colors will be more transparent in the future.

Thanks again,

I always like a lot the Sascha device icons, maybe you can contact with him to include in the docklet (you already contact him for your site icons), or maybe, someone of the great artists that are here could make ones

Thanks to you Albeik, the YzDock are better day a day with your docklets.

This is a great docklet, albeik - I always have to go to My Computer to see how much space is free on my drive, so this saves me a lot of trouble.

You're probably aware of this, but I thought I would note it: Right clicking on the docklet causes Y'z Dock to crash entirely (I'm running the latest version of Y'z Dock, 0.8.3). Not that there's a need to right click on it right now, but I decided to try it to see what would happen.

And yes, a prettier icon for it would be preferable, but that can all be worked out in good time - there's obviously no scarcity of good dock icons around.

Thank you again for developing this!

I think It had better replace the icon I think it will be perfect!!! (Y)

That is really nice!

I have a suggestion:

You know how the Power Docklet was made with a series of batteries having an icon that shows how full or empty it is ? Maybe an icon with a circle or pie-chart showing how full it is would be nice

cheers

Awesome! Thanks Albeik!

As far as colors go, just any sort of .ini customization of RGB colors would be cool if possible, I'm not too sure what I'd want to do, but it might be shades of grey or something. An ini or similar would just be easier than making you do all kinds of different colors per user on the board. Just a suggestion :). I do like VideoMann's idea of the pie chart that would be sweet if possible!

Thanks again!

:D

Very good!

Very useful indeed, thanks a lot Albeik.

Now some suggestions:

We should also have an option to completely disable the text.

I mean an option to remove whatever is displayed on the icon (the % free, and the colored bar).

That way the icon can look just like any other icon while displaying drive space on hover.

Also the rate at which the docklet checks space could be made adjustable (as stated in the readme file).

The hdd LED blinking every second can be annoying.

I think a middle-click update feature, like you have in the weather docklet, would be useful in this docklet as well.

The update rate can therefore be increased to something like 30 seconds while the user can update manually.

First, excuse my poor english :)

Good job for making this docklet...

I wanted 4 drives simultanely, so i do what max said, it's working fine...

but when i restart y'z dock, the drives docklets doesn't keep the drives i set up.

I have 4 drives docklets with c:\.

Perhaps make a .ini file to configure this...

I hope you understand what i mean ;p

fantastic pieve of work. i just love it. (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y)

allow me a short question: do u think it would be possible in the future to make the indicator thing edit-able for any user (maybe simply by exchanging some png´s or so)?

that would result in the fact, that this great thing can be cosumized simply by every user to fitt into the used theme and style. (ya, i heard there are people that do not use aqua, LOL)

anyway, let me say it again: GREAT WORK!

one more stupid question: any danger, or let me better say risk for hardware (drives) to be damaged by being checked every second?

TOM :own:

#33224

Any one got any good links to some nifty hard drive icons?

#33236

DaMy I´ve got the same problem here, when I restart Yzdock all the unites pass to be C:\

Any idea? .Thanks

#33249

All Docklets will default to C:\ drive at load time. You cannot do anything about that until you wait for the next release (supporing the INI file).

Regarding a damage that may be caused by accessing the drive every second... I am not sure and I hope not. The new release will provide a configuration where you can sepecify the scanning period. The docklet updates when you middle click it in the current version (not that u need to...)

Disabling the text/graphics on the icon is a good idea, I'll add that.

VideoMann's pie chart looks really nice. I'm tempted to try to do something like that. We'll see how it goes...

Everyone: If you have (or know off) better icons please forward them to me (it has to be a full set - matching all the icons names) with the PROPER credit.

Thanks everyone for testing out my docklet and your kind and motivating comments!

#33280

Thanks for the thanks, albeik :) Great work indeed and since it is just 0.1, I'm sure it will change and become more customizable. It's really good-looking allready, and I can't wait till I get home from work.

(I hope Duckie isn't hunting non-constructive thank-you posts like this today ;))
