RumShot - A SnapShooterish App for Windows

Well I was going to tell a story about this first, but my brain just isnt functioning at the moment.

No story short : I'm going to release an app here in a little while called 'RumShot' (yes, rum, the dangerous alcohol - do you have a little Captain in you? ;))

It's going to appear similar in interface to SnapShooter, with my own little flavor of course. The base functionality of being able to use custom borders and the like will also be part of this. Those of you testing Nubs right now will notice a similarity with the themes (as borders will be part of a theme, with some other goodies).

To that end... I've never used SnapShooter (as I dont have a mac).. so I'm looking for feedback from you all on features you would like to see, or things you would like to see ported from SnapShooter (I will of course need screenshots ;)) to this app.

Cheers

You'll probably want to have the ability to import snapshooter borders or .psd borders?

#357369

Cool idea andrew.

You could contact Steve who makes SnapShooter since he's a cool guy and might even share some of his code so border files would work cross platform :)

#357376

i've been waiting for something like this to come along, great idea.

#357386

...do you have a little Captain in you?

Ahhh...this is just too easy to take a shot at.:P

Sounds like a great idea. The app not the rum...umm...ok the rum too.

#357389

You might want to take a look at this thread. Seems someone here did a review on Snapshooter (with screenshots) a little while back for Aqua-Soft.

Sounds like a cool idea and look forward to seeing what you come up with.

#357429

that would be great, I've always been waiting for something like this. I'm kinda sick of making snap preview with Photoshop :P too much hassle for me **** :(

I'm surely looking forward to it :D

#357432

amen to that, duy.

but when do you plan on a release?

#357436

Well, there really isnt much to the app, meaning that it's not going to take down running applications if it fails (like Nubs had potential to) so I dont think a closed beta testing would be in order. I'll probably let something sneak out at the end of the week.

Definately NOT the final look, but I figured I would toss some tidbits at you all...

What you're seeing here is how the app looks first loaded up with the 'default' testing theme. The areas with 'checker' are the transparent areas (for PNG themes) and would otherwise denote the area where the preview of the screenshot would be painted on JPG or GIF based themes.

So you click the 'Take Snapshot' button. This takes a shot of your screen and keeps it for references behind the scenes. What's next? Just move the window around and the preview automatically updates based on where the window is, so you can position the theme preview 'just so'...

The main window after having been moved to an area just above visual studio...

The theme's list will look familiar to those who have used Snapshooter, but will look pretty much like the themes list in the teaser shots I posted of Nubs the other day (its pretty much the same code). I just dont have that all wired up yet.

Im still working on non-rectangular areas/regions (for the ss preview to fit into behind the 'theme') but havent figured out a decent solution to that yet, just a matter of math, which i loathe.

Anyhow, there ya are.

Waiting for the end of the week :)

Cool idea

Nice website.

#357456

i seriously don't need it to be good looking. Good appearance would be a big bonus, otherwise, a fully working app should be more than enough for me :)

I'll be anxiously looking forward to this weekend :D

#357458

finally, im so lazy, i never feel like editing in photoshop :P.

#357480

In the meantime, I would really appreciate if you guys could round up your favorite borders/themes.

... I should mention I can only package those which you/I have permission to use.

#357492

i can send you the snapshooter resources.

whats your email address?

#357739

Hit me on AIM and I'll set you up with my email address. I can't do much with them unless I have permission from the author to use them though.

Hi Andrew,

I've made a snapshot myself a while ago, if you like you can include it :D I would love to see it in your app.

Sure thing. What would you like to call (what would you like the theme name to be) it?

#358199

Any updates on progress? :P

Hi !

The app looks nice :)

There are tons of templates here : http://tinysoft.free.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?id=238

Maybe at the end of the project, you could ask for including them in your program ;)
