If you know me, then you know I like to dream about the future of apple...I believe they are the most innovative company in technology today... And if I was a lucky man would like to work in thier "innovative design" department one day.

I would like to share with you some wierd ideas I thought of, concepts if you will and general ramblings some based on remote facts-

COMPLETE WIRELESS Macs-

Yes you CANT make electricity travel through the air without it killing you, but you can get a desktop computer to run without a power cord...how? ...

iCell, simply plug iCell charger into the wall, and put in the mac's iCell to charge.

Then when you wish to use the computer simply slide the cell out of the charger and push it into the Mac and it turns on.

SPEED UPGRADE

Come on Job's, where's our trio core of 3Ghz processors in an iMac?

FLASH MEMORY Instant on Macs

Hard drives will soon be replaced by flash memory (u know flash disks and USB sticks- except with large capacities) the benefit?...

Instant on macs, you push in the iCell and the mac is on! no bootscreen, no loading... Flash memory is far faster to access than Hard disks and therefor the demand for ram is decreased- meaning one fast machine.

I'd rather have a steady power supply on a desktop machine instead of messing around with chargers etc - the charger would look uglier than a power cable... plus imagine it running out just when you need to do some work... ?

Flash memory is obvious - especially with macs as they have to be as small as possible these days - now this part may involve some form of detachability

Flash hard drives aren't coming out for YEARS. They currently cost thousands of dollars for only a few gigabytes. They won't be cost-effective for a good long while. In the meantime, manufacturers will put a few MB of Flash onto a hard drive, which is fine for boot purposes.

Flash isn't replacing RAM, either, as RAM is much, MUCH faster than Flash. By the time Flash hard drives become available, we'll have 4GB RAM as standard.

Not really, since no one is going to use a Nano as a hard drive. An SD Flash card would be a better bargain, but again, no one's going to even think of using that as a permanent HD.

Getting a few MB of Flash built in to regular hard drives is the best we'll get for a long while, and it'll achieve the same effects that most people want: super-fast boot/wake from sleep times.

My thoughts on the proposals by Levi.

Wireless electricity/chargers are impractical for desktops for the above reasons (namely, the whole wall charger and the existence of laptops). If you really need something like that, get a PowerMac or a mini and hide it out of sight with an Apple display.

3GHz mac will never happen using PPC chips and will take time for Intel unless Jobs uses P4s in the PowerMac line. PPC chips simply run too hot, hence the speed cap at dual-2.7GHz (and quad-2.5GHz). Plus... no one but pros will ever need, or pay for, that kind of power. Wait to see what intel goodies'll be unveiled by Christmas.

You will NEVER completely switch to flash memory in a reliable fashion. Granted the OLPC project is an exception, but think about it this way. How does your computer boot? BIOS or EFI, both requiring bootscreens. They are NOT stored in one huge flash memory module with your data, but rather on their own special chip on the motherboard. Sometimes, they're hardprogrammed and locked, though they can be updated. Flash memory has the problem of not being stored on a physical medium. If your flash drive totally loses power for a prolonged period of time, your data is GONE! If you didn't use your laptop in a month, how would you feel to lose your OS, your photos, your work-critical files, etc.? I've done this with calculators (flash memory), PDAs (flash memory), and phones (flash memory, I don't use the SIM card for my contacts). Flash memory is more prone to data loss from electrical problems, power surges, etc. Flash memory is MUCH MORE FRAGILE and prone to break when dropped, with complete data loss (unlike hard drives, where you're fine if your heads are parked). Finally, hard drives are cheaper--I can buy a 200GB drive for 70 bucks by watching the ads.

Now for what I want:

Two firewire 400 ports on more Macs, as I'm sick of choosing between my iSight and my external HD.

Cheaper screens (both Apple's displays and PowerBook repairs), as I want to fix my old laptop for less than two minis and I want to pay less than 1000 for my 23in this Christmas.

Yes, the only available type of Flash-based hard drive is a super-rugged model being marketed to the military as a more durable replacement for standard hard drives in combat zones.

Meanwhile, the level of technological refinement necessary to bring the cost of Flash production down to the point where it becomes feasible for Apple to put into their computers is years off. Let's say the average shipping hard drive capacity is 60GB. Using your example, a 4GB iPod Nano, factoring in the cost of the casing, display, internal components, etc, in addition to the 4GB of NAND Flash purchased at considerable discount due to bulk order, costs $250.

4GB @ $250 * 15 = $3750 for a 60GB Flash hard drive.

I'm not disagreeing with you - but I can almost put money on there being a 8gig Nano this year and propably a 16gig next year - the point of this thread is about future developments not current pricing/limitations. In a couple of years time there will be flash drive macs.... simple as that.

flash HARD DRIVE and a flash memory chip in a nano are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.

a flash memory chip is considerable slower than a flash hard drive and you wouldn't want to boot a computer from a ipod nano.. you might even break it.

the only thing close to a flash hard drive nowadays is that some manufacturers are integrating a tiny amount of flash memory to speed up boot times so instead of having to start spinning the harddrive and reading it'd only have to read the flash chip.

Alright, I dream that Apple will run windows apps flawlessly (so I can run 3d studio max)... I want Apple to switch to AMD . Macs in the future will be free for people that will appreciate them, lol.

But seriously I would like to see more development for macs and I want to see a faster mac.

Everyone who complains about the one click mouse will be shot out of a cannon. Apple will make a 80 in. cinema display that will perform nightly laser shows. Next gen. ibooks will come with rockets to propell you to work. And finally powermac's will become so powerful they will rise up against their human masters and take over the world, making it prettier and more fun.

Hmm... I wish every game would run flawlessly on a Mac... and that Macs were almost completely wireless (Everything wireless, except for the single power cord comming out the back.) iMacs will come with 20 quad-core 40ghz processors, 120tb RAM, 100tb HD (all data is loaded into ram on startup ) A single gpu as powerful as about 60 512mb 7800 GTX's running as one, no need for noisy fans, no viruses... 80in screen....

Yah, thats about all I can think of.

Sounds like a good idea. Some computers have already got flash memory instead of a hard drive. Some guy paid loads of money to get a custom made notebook with 2 or so terrabytes of space in flash memory. Don't know how much he paid but i'm guessing in the millions.

I has an idea last night on how to make a very compact OS. Unfortunatly I can't tell you just incase it's the next big thing. let's say an app that would be like 600MB on windows, when proted properly it could be about 2MB... No compression at all.

I might share this with you later....

i want the whole mac to be the size of a flash drive...

the display fitted into sunglasses(which someone has already done i think(maybe not)...i did read about it somewhere...it projects a screen in fron of u_)

the computer should be controlled by thought,

bluetooth like wireless data transfers(billion times faster),but the range shouldnt be 10 meters,it should be global...maybe intergallactic(well be living in some other planet...by the time we achieve this dream)...
