[HELP] systray icons on dock

I am new with RK dock, love it already!

But RK Launcher automatically puts some (not all!) of my system tray icons on the dock... I don't want them there!

Ofcourse I can simply remove them the obvious way, but then, I don't want ANY future system tray icon to appear on the dock...

how can I do this?

I am trying to make a simple horizontal bar with Objectbar wich will contain the systray, 3 buttons for 3virtualdesktops, logoff/shutdown buttons, Control Panel/several settings for stuff like network connections, monitor properties etc.

So I don't need systray icons on the dock..

But now that I think of it... it would be nice if the systray icons where placed in group of 4, 4 systray icons on the place of 1 normal icon on the dock..

so if one has 8 systray icons, it would only consume the place of 2 items on the dock, in 2 lines 4 systray icons (so each will be 25% the size of a normal item)

I believe there is a Docklet for Objectdock that does something like this..

But for now, how do I disable systray icons?

btw sorry for creating new topic, there are so many for each question... used the search but didn't help.

Perhaps there should be a FAQ or HELP subforum or something..

try unchecking this: Go to Settings>Behavior panel: Dock Control, uncheck "Show New Applications"

Do you mean your running tasks or your system tray? They're two very different things--the system tray shows small icons without text and the clock, and you can extend it by using the chevron. It's on the far right side. The running tasks include icons and text, and it's a list of all the program windows you have open.

I don't think RK Launcher has the ability to show system tray icons, so I think you're talking about the running tasks...

NOW I understand how it works!

unfortunately, not as I expected:

If I uncheck "Show new apps", and launch a program that is not on the dock, it won't show it there.... so unchecking this is very unwise

I now understand why I thought it had systray icons:

it shows not just opened applications, also applications that run on the background like Y'zToolbar (wich is not in my systray but does run on the background) and Lclock (wich is not a systray icon either but does run on background).

I don't understand really why it then doesn't show an icon for my antivirus for example... but that doesn't matter, if I rightclick the items and select "NEVER SHOW.." they are no trouble anymore

I realise RK is still in development, but is it correct some apps like Firefox are not minimized to the dock?

and uhm, I wonder, suppose I have 5 apps opened, none minimized, one of them is Windows Explorer--> can't see it because the other 4 windows are in front of it.

Normally I would go to the taskbar, find it and click it.

Now ofcourse if I use RK as replacement and since the windows aren't minimized, I can't find the window.

Does anyone have problems with this?

what if I had one more Windows Explorer opened, this one minimized... I could make mistakes in what window is what..

I just want to know if this is a problem... since I am really considering of disabling windows taskbar and switching to RK Launcher permanently

There is a known issue with Firefox 1.5 minimizing to RKL. As I understood (although I haven't tried it myself), in the FF nightly builds that issue is addressed, so either wait until a new release of Firefox is available or go for nightlies (unfortunately I cannot provide a link to download these nightlies - it's kind of late and I'm sleepy, and I'm in no mood for search these things).

On Macintosh, you have something called Exposé. Link

For that problem, the best solution, in my opinion, is to use an expose clone application

(search for something called Entbloess, TopDesk, WinPlosion). There is a downside to these apps - they "eats" a lot of RAM.

I use Alt+Tab to switch between open windows (and if you install TaskSwitch from MS is really fun to use that command).

For that you have to go to where you have installed RKL - C:Program Files..., edit "RKLauncher.conf" file (open it with Notepad or Wordpad, after you quit RKL, of course).

Set on [behaviour], minimizePosition to -2 (for minimize to right of the separator - that is between separator and trash can), or -1 (for minimize to the far right of the dock).

To switch to apps that are open but hidden, select "Same Instance" in the Dock Item Property dialog. Then when you click on the icon, one window of that app will come to the front.

If you do that, when you click the explorer icon on the dock, it brings up only the last explorer window selected, but you can't choose which one to bring to front. So the rest windows remain hidden...
