Windows Shell...explorer.exe...

I tried to find a thread that was related as not to have to post a new topic...but could not find any...

Explorer.exe (WinXP SP1) for me when I execute it always opens in 'my documents' and is on the far left hand side of the opened window...(it's like opening 'history' in IE 6)...

After getting more familar with Alilm's clean looking Felix 6, is there not a way to be able to open 'Explorer' in its own window? I'm pretty sure that there was a thread/tutorial on this but I can not find it...I have searched all Aqua-soft, AquaXP, DT2 and VIA forums, and even went the dreaded MS KBA's route to no avail...

OK... This is dangerous so make sure you know what you are doing... And wiat for some better advice before doing this...

Control Panels>Folder Options> File Association tab>

anything that opens with explorer.exe (Drive, Folder, sub folders, CDs ect..) change to open with Felix 6

What would happen that is dangerous?

i tried doing it but all i have in Folder Options is General -- Views -- File Types

I have no file association tab. Is there something i am doin wrong? I have no service pack on my xp.

It's the file types tab you're lookin for..

and it's dangerous because you're changing the way your operating system looks at folders and disk drives.. probably not the best idea.

Thanks...those were my exact thoughts...until one of talented developers, Alilm or MrAqua finalize a complete, functional Finder clone, then my 'explorer.exe' will remain as is...

But at the same time, reinstalling your OS nowadays only takes about 15-20 minutes.

(For me, atleast)

Maybe for longhorn, re-installing means backing up (if you can), Format, and actually waiting for a program to install and configure system files to adhear to your systems specs... Maybe for longhorn it takes 15-20 mins to setup, but formatting a 10GB HD on 533Mhz system takes about 25 mins! not to mention moding everything AGAIN, re-installing apps, copying backed up data (if any)

If you don't know how to do it you shouldn't attempt it.

it will change the way explorer will run... Just make a link to felix on yr desktop.

Remember "System Restore"... It actually does work.

Just create a restore point before hand and if you really screw things up, boot into safe mode and restore to your previuos point.

Reg changes are captured and will be reverted.

Trust me... I have screwed my PC up on more than one occasion trying out all these tweaks. System Restore works about 99.9% of the time.
