Y's Installer

I have both Wise Profesional & Wise For Windows Installer and wondered if anyone would favour a nice little Installer package to install all the options available to Y Dock users, even perhaps a few PNG's for the dock given appropriate permissions are obtained from the authors.

I want to see reaction from users first, then if there is any demand or request for an installer, then I will get permission from the developers to proceed.

So, let me know what you think and then I will get the ball rolling.

I don't think there is a need for an installer. The beauty of the app as is ..is that it can be placed anywhere with as many copies as necessary without having to enter anything into the register. Why complicate things that are simple and clean ?

There is always too many problems getting permissions. Configuring the dock is always an individual thing anyhow. I never cared for the default icons myself and don't even like having the default icon folder given a particular name that somebody else decides. In my opinion it is not needed, don't know what others think. Programs like Samurize would do much better with an installer since configuration for any of the widgets is always a problem.

Well as an alternative then, if anyone thinks there is an application mentioned here that could use an installer then send me a PM and I will contact the author to obtain permissions.

(I generally don't do installers unless I have permission since this makes extra headache for the Developer who not only has to figure out his own stuff but some installer that people use)

So just let me know if there are any apps that could get better support via an installer and I'll get on it.

i'm sure everybody appreciates your kindness.

making an installer is not a big deal.

let's make it and post it on the designtechnika.com board.

surely some users will be happy.

maybe it would be useful to add function that creates registrykeys for the dock's icon, background and docklet folder.. and the setup of docklets, etc would be '1click'.

that should be fun to make a more complex setup for the dock that includes a section where you can edit the ini file on a eyecandy interface where the user can see&choose the background, the icons. user would be able to set up everything via the installer (set applications, folders, etc with icons + docklets - [included in installer?])

it is a hard work..

in the other hand the whole idea is unnecessary...

"the problem is choice" ;)

I hate installer's. If there was one I would only look for one feature. The ability to choose an external icons folder, so then I dont have to copy icons around to the YZDock folder.

Most in this thread I would agree with. The beauty of Yz apps is the fact that they don't have an installer. I myself think this would lessen the ease of use with the apps. Because if you have an installer then there will be the need for an uninstall and now we are talking registry entries, leave my registry alone, lol. Seriously, an installer for YZ apps, imho, would be a bad move.

i hate installers too

but KaosAD: don't be solicitous.. if a user runs windows its registry is a zombie (almost dead) from the first run...
