How to recompile own Avetunes skin from various skins

Ok, its true that the best way to get it the way you want is to do it your self, well i have a few avetunes that i love but there are somethings i would like to change.

For example i want the lucid background witht he buttons from the buttons avetunes and i want a bigger album art etc.

SO i was wondering how would i go about making my own *moded* avetunes skin for myself

Also how do u add bolded font to avetunes and how do u make scrolling text for names that have characters longer than XX

Well you would go about this by first making a copy of the skin that has the most features you want and renaming that folder to whatever you want to call it..

then you would modify the images you which to change with photoshop or another application of your choosing

then you would open up skin.ini and begin editing the placement of the images/buttons/albumart/scrollbars/countdowns etc..

everything you need to edit placement/text wise is in skin.ini

all the images are in the images folder

I hope that helps at all... for starters.. open up the skin.ini in a premade skin and figure out how everything works

for bold text he probably used a type/font that was already bolded

Study the INI file to see how the skin is layed out, grab the graphics from the one skin and copy them to the folder of the full skin you want to add them to. Change the names if necessary.

Once you the new graphics in the skin, change the location values to move them where you want them.

Is it that time of the month again?

Every month we get several of threads like this one. :slant:

#353814

We get these threads because there's no good explanation of what the values in the skin.ini file do....we need a guru-level Avetunes skinner to please generate a "how-to" describing what all the values do. I've tried to do some of the above - make text field longer for example. It's an exercise in frustration - trial and error - grab a bunch of skins to see what they do....make some mods....the text looks good but now the progress bar is too short....whoops, that setting adjusted the ratings stars, not the proress bar....oh, there's the setting....but now the control buttons are off centered and look bad....so I end up giving up. Why should everyone need to reinvent the wheel every time? I'd write the thing if I knew what I was doing, but I don't.

If you guys think it's hard following a well documented skinning guide Ave posted at AS how do you think beta testers felt when we made original skins without any guidelines?

It's easy but takes some time and patience. Nobody can pour knowledge in your head. You need to devote some time to it.

Unbe: can you point me to the skinning guide here at AS? I've never seen it and my forum searches are coming up empty. I'll gladly take a look at it and apply it to my next attempt.

same here, even though i did mod my own skin ounce, i took a while to figure out the values, but when i create an image i use fireworks, but the skin.ini doenst seem to want to agree with the placement of images according to fireworks grids so my buttons and progress bars always take a long f***ing time to figure out the position of them.

So i too would like to see a HOW TOO GUIDE.

Excellent! Thanks......maybe that one post should be made a "sticky" or captured as a "readme" and posted on Avedesk.org.

If you were to have looked at the INI file for the "Default Animated" skin, you would see that everything is documented right there.

Oh christ, that means another avalanche of avetunes skins
