Nubs - StickyWindows for Windows

A while ago someone had mentioned to me 'Sticky Windows' a macintosh-only application which allowed a user to drag windows partially outside the viewable area of their monitor(s) to create a little tab on the side of the screen. Well I've finally gotten around to writing it and I'm letting everyone here know, in case anyone is interested.

If you're curious as to what exactly 'StickyWindows' is, have a look at this website, which has a great little flash animation on how exactly 'StickyWindows' works.

Nubs is based on this video, well, since I dont have a mac.

If you're interested in getting in on alpha/beta testing, send me a message on AIM to SirWidgets and I'll get you started.

#353919

Looks good andrew :) Hopefully (well I bet it is already) more stable than the Mac version which only runs if I'm lucky.

#353980

Hey andrew, when will the beta come? Can't wait!

Edit: Sorry, didn't read the last line.

#354025

im waiting for the actual release, not very good with beta testing,

@spygamer just pm him and ask him to beta test

#354926

Already did, but got no answers. Seems that he want we to AIM him, but I don't have an AIM account to.

I take alpha/beta testing pretty seriously, as it's a very important part of development to ensure that I'm not just letting out some buggy, incomplete application. When you release an application it's a reflection of your skill, your knowledge and I tend to feel it's an extension of the type of person you are - it's basically art in my eyes. (That's a personal standard by the way)

Those who are serious about helping me test the application and willing to provide me with the feedback I need to make it a good application will go the extra inches to get the beta. It makes logical sense. And I do greatly apprciate those who have been testing it and providing me with feedback.

Just another quick note, please DO NOT use an AIM account to contact me that you share with your parents or siblings. I just spoke with a very confused parent after letting them know that a new build of Nubs had been posted. I'm fairly sure that they thought it had something to do with porn...

#355579

Sounded like an awesome killer app, until I realized the Windows taskbar already basically does that. :

#355600

What an asinine comment...

'I was going to drive a Ford, until I realized a Chevy does the same thing'

Troll alert!

#355680

Awesome andrew_ :D Was waiting for someone to start this :)

(funny AIM story btw)

#355681

Update...

I've finished the core functionality and have a working settings schema in place along with a fairly useful themeing schema and dialog working fairly well. I'm still waiting for any error/bug reports to come in from those who have contacted me to help out (thanks again all). All in all it shouldnt be more than a few days until I can unleash this on the public. Installer, website pending of course.

A very gracious tester volunteered to do a flash tutorial for Nubs much like Sticky Windows has there, but has run into some limitations. To that end, if anyone is a skilled flash developer and would like to help out a fun freeware project, I would love to work with you to develop a tutorial much like what you see linked in my original post.

And a few screens for good measure...
