Copy System Folders

OK... Anouther stupid question from ihartmacz..

Ya know how if you copy your System Folder to another HD (in a classic OS (9 or before)) the drive is Autoimatically bootable?

Does this also occur in Windows, If you copy the C:\Windows and the C:\Program Files folder to another drive.

I dont think so.

The boot information is stored at the beginning of your first Windows partition,so it may not be in that folder. I had to find this out the hard way. <_<

There are additional hidden systemfile that need to be at a specific place (beginning) on the HDD in the root directory.

What you can try with XP is to copy all of the content of the HDD to another one including hte root directory and then boot from CD. You get the option to look for installed versions of windows. You might get the option to have that installation repaired.

Have fun,
