[help] How do I make all taskbar programs appear in the dock?

Hi all.

First time posting but loving the whole Aqua on my Sony thing since installing yesterday and have found the forum very helpful already.

However, despite having tried to work out how to do this basic thing using the forum, I'm a bit stuck. Having not been a mac user since OS9 and hence never a native dock user it might even be that what I'm after isn't part of the real dock. So, I have my taskbar at the top of the screen and the RKlauncher dock at the bottom. I know now that Firefox unfortunately won't minimise to my dock which I can live with, and am finding that I still quite like the taskbar quietly being there at the top anyway. However, unless I actively minimise apps they don't appear in the dock. Surely all open apps should be in my dock, else I find myself mouse-ing over the dock only to find the open app I'm after is not a minimised app [but a background one] and then having to alt-tab or taskbar switch my way there instead. Am I doing something stupid or is this how it should be?

BTW... I noted someone getting 'disciplined' for not using tags but despite having checked out the guidelines before this my first post I'm none the wiser... I'd figured there'd be some del.icio.us type tag thing in the new post interface but I can't find it.

Thanks very much.

Rough overview... flyakite v3.0 inc. RKlauncher v0.4 and other default flyakite settings

Right-click RK Launcher, hit Settings, click the Behavior tab, and check Minimize to RK Launcher.

By the way, tags go in the subject line. In this case, you would've used "[Help] How do I make all taskbar programs appear in the dock?" Taskbar is not the tag: help is.

Thanks for the speedy response. My issue is not with apps that I actively minimise though - I have the 'Minimise to RK' box checked and minimised apps behave as expected. My issue is with apps that are open but are not minimised - they are often open in the background somewhere but are obscured by other windows, or perhaps are on my second monitor. These apps don't appear in the dock, but behaviourly [already] that's the first place I look to when I want to switch apps. Can I do this?

BTW... thanks for the tags tip... I'll try to tag accordingly in future posts.

You can do it with objectdock, but not with RKLauncher.

Doh! That solves that then. Thanks for the solution... sorry RK... it's been nice while it lasted. :-)

That's the only reason I don't like RKlauncher, I'm using it right now btw, but I must say that Objectdock is much better in terms of interface, because everything gets minimized there, and once you open either a folder, program whatever it goes straight to the dock! Plus, it already works with messenger and when someone talks to me, in spite of the dock being hidden I can see the msn icon jumping, wich is really good. In RKlauncher you can't see that. The reason I ditched Objectdock ( used it for 2 days ), is because it slows down when hovering through the icons, wich is kind of odd, I have 2gigs ram etc.. It can obviously handle this, but with RKlauncher it's always smooth, but in Objectdock in the middle of like 30 icons, it slows down... So that's the only reason I'm not using objectdock, although it is a great program!

This is EXACTLY my problem! I've used RK Launcher now for 2 days... I was impressed, also that it might have support for the systray docklet and menudocklet..

But it's behaviour is not as I expected... I open a program and I see it on the taskbar, why not on the dock?

Even worse, I open a program for example Internet Explorer, check "Show new apps" and there will be an icon on the dock, it seems it is just randomly placed somewhere on the dock...

Unfortunately, this icon that appears is IEXPLORE.EXE, it is not specifically the window I have opened!

If I minimize Internet Explorer, I get another icon, the minimized version..

If I try to close IE from the dock... it is a pain... if closing works depends on wich of the 2 icons you select...

To bring apps to the front that are open but are not minimised, click "Same Instance" in Dock Item Properties and then click that icon.

Is there any news on an msn messenger docklet yet?

for RKLauncher? for objectdock? why in the world did you post in this thread?

I use this one for task switching. http://www.dockex.com/process.download.php?d=18

Not sure if this is the most current but I believe it is. Works fine for me under the latest nightly of 239.
