[poll] The future of AveDesk

Before you freak out, this is just the first in series of polls we are going be posting to see what you really want in AveDesk and where its development should head.

AveDesk has reached the point where it's more than just a hobby and takes a lot of time to maintain and develop. With a new version on the horizon, new website in development, new desklets and more people working on it, it's at the critical juncture.

So today we ask you this: Where should AveDesk head in the future? Do you want it go payware with more options and faster development cycles or slower, bug fixes during longer periods but free? How about having a Pro version with extra features and a Core version for free? AveDesk has started as a community app and we would like to hear what community has to say.

Sell it to Microsoft & watch as they stop developing it and the number of bugs increases.

In all seriousness a pro version is probably the way to go and perhaps look at creating a part of Avedesk.org to be something like Gadgets.com.

hmmm i like the idea of it being free as features would be more accessable for people so they'd pick it over the yahoo widgets app.....

one thing you could do is have a pro version for a while and when no-ones looking make it free again so people will flood to get it (that way avedesk gets a teeeny bit more popular and you guys get some green paper. But i know you guys arent gonna be just doing it for the money.....the last thing you want to do is have money taint everthing

I voted "I don't really care as long as it's developed" - meaning that it all depends on the quality and layouts of desklets that comes out. Currently I am using Konfabulator which has something like 2000 widgets - and yes, a lot of them sucks. But I don't mind paying for quality and Avedesk do have a lot of gordious desklets. Just my 2 cents of whatever...

I would pay for the pro thingy (if it was going to happen), but I really really wish it was free, that is ONE of the main reason I use Avedesk, so I picked: (I want it to stay free, no matter what)

I wated for first option because I like AveDesk 1.3 and it works very well for me... And yes, i think i would not pay for AveDesk... But it is really perfect software, but if stay freeware.

Sponsorship.

Dont sell out to another company, no add spyware. However if you went ot a big company and offered to advetise somehow then it would help. For example you could make a google widget that would get you paid everytime someone used it. You know anymous statistics or sumin.

Also pro and free version is an idea. Remember even mozilla has a coporate and business side.

I voted "I don't care". I really think the program should go on, but people have to cope with the Real Life thing. So I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks. I soon as I realized this, I asked myself "so, why I haven't done it yet?" and ended up here

I donated way back when for the "free" version to try to keep development alive, so if there were the features to justifiy it, I'd have no problem paying for a PRO version

I've donated before, but people sometimes forget there's an actual person putting hours and hours in development. There are many options, but I will defenitevely pay the bucks for a pro version, if i can give 20 bucks to stardock for WB5 i can give 10 () to Ave to continue the great work.

though the best thing to do is to have a crippled free version and full/pro version.

and then just have contests here and there and give pro versions away.
