[Help] Autostart items

Hey, guys!

Well I finally went all the way... I Installed Flyakite, ObjectDock and ObjectBar... I finally got the perfect Mac-look on my PC... I would like some help however...

Object Dock & ObjectBar placec a shortcut in the Autostartfolder and my experience is that it starts a few seconds later than if it´s in the registry. How do I make them start via the registry? Is there a free application (like tweakxp) that can do it for me, or do I have to tamper with it myself?

Please help!

You mean the Startup folder? Well anthing that's put in the startup folder gets put into the registry list anyway, its probably your imagination that makes them start slower. I wouldn't recommend editing the registry, thats what the Startup folder is there for.

If you really want to tinker, type 'msconfig' into StartMenu>Run (without the quotes)

Go to the Startup tab and you will find a list of programs which start, and you can tick them or untick them as you wish.

Well... I´ll leave it the way it is then...?

Perhaps I´m just imagining.. however, I´m trying to get the apps to autostart without placing them i the "autostart"-folder (in swedish that´s what the folder is called).

The msconfig method is just for preventing autostart... I can´t add items there, can I?

Google a free program called 'startup control panel'. Items can be started with the system via the registry. These items start as the os is booted. These items need to be entered in your hkcu registry folder, and the program mentioned will make that easy. Items can be placed in a users start up folder. These items start immediately after the os has booted. The registry start up items do load faster therefore, although the difference to the user is probably minimal unless you have a lot of start up items.

Yup i agree with Savoury, Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin is the best for me too , and is skinned when you install flyakite after it, now that's a bonus

I've used Mike Lin's program in the past, but I now find StartupRun, by Nirsoft (Google it) to be better.

Ah well I was wrong, hehe. Now I've moved everything out of my Startup folder for those few extra milliseconds. It all counts!
