On your Windows computer-
Browse to your itunes music folder
Right click- select Sharing and security
Share the folder
On your Mac
Mount the shared folder with samba
It will now show up as a network drive
In itunes you can now add all the song files to your library

The songs are already shared and accessible from the mac, except if I add them to the library, it copies them to the iBook hard drive. Is there a way that I could at least minimize iTunes to the tray?
If you tell itunes , under the advanced tab in options, not to "Copy file to itunes music folder" when adding to the library then they should stay on your PC (I think) but still be added to your library. A problem may arise when you try to play those songs when not connected to the LAN- you could slove this by creating a playlist of all your songs except those from the PC and only play from this list when not connected to the LAN.
Also under the advanced tab is the option to "show the itunes icon in the system tray"- as well as the sub-option of "minimise itunes window to system tray", these should solve your problem partially at least. If you use multiplugin then minimising to the system tray will also significantly cut down on the resource usage of itunes.
