which language to check out?

as you can see here, ms has free downloads of 'express' version of some (all?) of their programming languages. my question is: what's the hip, cool, cutting edge one of these right now? i've heard of all of them and i think they're all current. so if i was gonna try and jump in, which one?

thx.

"Hip, cool, cutting edge" ?

C++ rules beyond any doubt. You aren't limited to .Net with it. All others are.

"try and jump in" ?

Any of them but not C++.

Beep! Logical contradiction error: Attribute missing in result set.

No honestly, these free crippled express versions are a clever plot of MS to get Java developers hooked on dotNet. And the really interesting one, C++, is too crippled to be used outside the dotNet sandbox. I'd say: Learn Objective-C (buy an apple with the free and fabulous xCode on board first).

shmengie, you pretty much answered your question:

oh yeah, c# is the shizzle. dl it and you'll learn it in a flash and get a job for huge $$!! microsoft rulz!!

If you're going to learn a .NET language, go for C#. If you want to learn something more low-level, less cushy and comfy, go learn C++.

that's funny, cuz i totally pulled c# outta my arse, just as an example.

Good guess :)
