hmmm...let's think...what else would you need...? maybe...stylexp?!?! fine okay, you could use reshacker for some stuff, but if you wanna create a theme, i don't think know that you got a lot of options.

To create a theme you can either edit every single bit of an exisitng theme using something like Resource Hacker http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ or you can create it from scratch using rescource hacker (harder) i suggest modifying the default XP theme so that you dont get any crap about copying from authors of which theme you may choose to edit. I prefer using resource hacker to styleXP 1) because its free and 2) because you are doing all the work meticulously and you can perfect everything. Another free alternative to styleXP which is basically the same thing as Resource Hacker but with a few more features is called ResEdit http://www.tgtsoft.com/download.php which is made by the same people as StyleXp (TGT Soft). iT WOULD also help to have a nice image editing program I.E. photoshop or GIMP. If you are looking to make personal mods or not so complicated themes MS Paint should do the trick just fine... Have fun!

stylebuilder is a lot faster than reshack though. reshack will allow you to do some things stylebuilder isn't capable of, but overall it's a lot harder to make a style with reshack.

Sorry for resurrecting a month old thread, I tried editing an .msstyle in ResEdit, a couple of times it worked out nicely, until today it stopped working. When I preview the mod, all the graphics became solid black, the window frames are still visible, but when I tried applying it gave me an error.

Now I only changed the graphic parts and a line in the TEXTFILE part of the .msstyle, the question is, do I need to recompile those .ini files to be able to use it? If so, what tools do I need?

And , are there any points I should pay attention in editing .msstyle using ResEdit?

TIA ;)
