not very new but yeah, when I saw the new name of "Windows Mail" I laught because the could have chosen any name, but they chose that one.
well, outlook express never had a calendar, so you're wrong. but renaming oe to 'windows mail' and then adding a calendar app, well, you're right.

It was a tough call--the toughest, but after serious thought, I decided this belongs more in Windows software than Aero Discussion. After all, you're talking about programs more than GUI...

Windows Calendar sounds too generic to pin the "copying OS X!" sticker on them. "Windows Mail" on the other hand...
I wonder if the file will be named "Mail.exe"?

let's be fair, tiger basically stole dashboard from arlo rose...and didn't do a very good job, in my opinion. in the end, i prefer yahoo widgets over dashboard.
Arlo's work was based on XML, scripting environment and graphic renderer, while Dashboard and the those "gadgets" are based on DHTML and browser capabilitites. So, Apple took the idea and made more easy to use (as a built in technology). MS stolen it, as usually.

Well, I guess from an emulation standpoint... the more apple like apps they have the better off we all will be. hahaha I hope they steal some of the sexy design styles too. Not the VERY ones from mac just come up with something HOT.

Consider this logic-- what Apple has done with OS X is nearing perfection, right? So is Windows is truly getting better... there's only one way for it to go (toward OS X.)
MS just knows they will never be as good as Apple, so they have to steal everything. MS isn't original in anything.

This has to be one of the oddest complaints I've ever heard... who cares about the guts of the system? As long as Apple keeps the airflow and heat dispersal operating as efficiently as possible, does it really matter what the PCB looks like? Come on...
besides, i would need to see the insides of a powerpc imac to compare it to. i'm betting it ain't that different...
Well im not much of a important person in this forums, but i think that ure to much of apple fanboys (flame me), i know that apple got a very sleek and nice OS but come on, face it, windows over power it by far
1.- U can count with ur hands the number of apps avaible for Mac OS, for Windows well theres hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of apps, for anything in any language u want.
2.- I know that Apple hardware is just plain awsome, their smoothnes of desing, lines, colors, etc...
but come on, every1 with just the same PC with very little room for upgrading, i prefer a custom easy upgradable rig (even if its just plain ugly in front of an iMac)
3.- Apple has stolen a lot more ideas of windows, just a very little example, Front Row come on that just a Media Center with a black background and a iPod like control.
4.- If ure a gamer theres no need for more explantion.
5.-Windows XP is a lot less resurce consumer than Mac OS X
6.- Windows is able to run a lot more apps at the same time than a Mac (not as sexy as a Mac would but hey nothing is perfect)
So i think this discussions is just plain stupid, and Windows Vista will be just the only thing missing in Windows XP, a pretty face (something that Mac has mastered long time ago).
But hey those are just my thoughts
I'd refute your ideas, except I can barely make out what you're typing. It seems as if you're just saying that the only advantage Apple has over the Windows/PC world is appearance... in which case, you've not only demonstrated that you've never used OS X for any decent length of time, but have stumbled upon a reason why so many people want to emulate OS X's appearance while running Windows XP.

I use a mac at work, and there are some valid points there. I mean, the OS isn't as perfect as some would have others believe. Windows XP, for all the complaints against it, is a very stable OS, not at all resource intensive, relatively quick but sinfully ugly. On the other hand, almost every section of it allows endless skinning possibilities. Everyone knows that macs are rewarding to work with, but that's not to say there are never problems, and it's certainly not user-friendly when your attemting a task you've not done before. Windows gets a lot of stick, but I don't think that the comparison is as straightforward as people make out, except visually where the winner is obvious, even, I'm sure, to Microsoft.

I didn't know popularity was a mark of quality. Windows ME was popular. Doesn't mean it wasn't a total pile. Likewise, AMD's processors have a small share of the x86 market, but that doesn't mean they don't trash Intel's offerings. (Though thankfully, Yonah is beginning to turn things around for Intel, technology-wise.)
Ask yourself, if Windows is superior to OS X, why is Microsoft remaking Vista in OS X's image? Forget the small stuff, just think of Vista's major features: a hardware-accelerated desktop, integrated systemwide search, a cleaned-up back end, WinFX, and a bundled software suite curiously similar to the default offerings in OS X. There's obviously something there that Microsoft feels they need to use.
