Developing Audio front end application
Should this be a standalone mp3/ogg/whatever player or should it rely on iTunes/winAmp/whatever?

Firstly have you tried contacting the Developer of Turok? It may be quite hard to implement Ogg Vorbis support with the source code. Otherwise I think that you are creating a new program.
This program would need:
a) Some way of reading the album covers, or retreiving them from the internet
B)A picture viewer (prob not too hard to do)
I think this would work best as a plugin to be honest, for Winamp or Itunes or Foobar because of the need to play songs and display info.
Maybe it is worth posting a request in the AveDesk Forum section to see if anyone is willing to develop this as a Desklet?
I am unsure whether it is possible to run this as a standalone app...(like a Desktop X widget can be ported to an .exe file)
