[Help] MSStyle Modding with ResHack

Hi,

i searched a lot in the forum and with Google for a MSStyle Tutorial, but i didn't find it! Some knows something about? I need only one simple thing! i want only to modify the background color of the mouse-over voices in the standard menus (i mean: start panel menu, mouse-right-click menu, tollbar menus and so on..).

I opened the msstyle theme with ResHack but i don't know where i have to put the moddings. Also tried to open the shellstyle but... the same, i don't know where to put the moddings (even if i think that the shellstyle is not the right file to modify... but i'm not sure)

you may try to use StyleBuilder from TGT Soft, you can alter msstyles with it

Yes, thanks, but it only alloes you to build styles to be applied with StyleXP, while i want to generate msstyle files to apply directly in xp!

I tried ResEdit and ResHack. The first seems to be more powerfull, but using both i found ResHack better. The real problem is that i don't know where to put my hands!

For example: this is my first modification ever; i modified the colors of the task pannel on the ledt in explorer. changed the bitmap of the taskbar and put the same for special and normal tasks; no changes for the buttons, but put the same for both; change the background colors of the normal tasks and the font color of the special-task-title:

But if i try to replace the bmp of the control pannel (resource 22), it simply disappears!! :confused:

Somebody knows why?

You can use Stylebuilder without Stylexp, that's why is the uxthemepatcher

In Stylebuilder you have to click the Apply button to create the .msstyles file.

Sorry,

but i need StyleXP to be installed to apply the VS, and i don't want to install it, because i don't need it (i patched the uxtheme.dll with flyakite patch); i don't want any useless threads to run i don't use them!

StyleBuilder crashes because StyleXP is not installed!

Suggestions??

Stylebuilder just alerts you that you need Stylexp too, but it works without Stylexp perfectly, forget Stylexp, you don't need it!! If you patched uxtheme.dll then you apply the msstyle in Stylebuilder and it's done! Believe me, I am doing the same way!!!

In the latest minutes i installed the tryout version of StyleXP. Now i uninstall it! Shall do i unpatch again the uxtheme.dll with the flyakite unpatcher?

Last thing. What version are you using of StyleBuilder? i'm looking for the v2.50 on the net but i'm not finding it? do you know where i can find it?

I'm usigng the recent version from TGTsoft, but it doesn't matter the version. And you don't need ro repatch the uxtheme.dll
