well, on my old computer, i ended up customizing a lot to make it look like aqua, and then it got sluggish. mainly when scrolling in explorer or firebird, it'll be a little slow and there will be lines, like the images are cut (but only for a split second). does this have anything to do with a hacked dll? or a graphics driver problem? i have the latest nvidia dets.
i just installed a new hard drive and am getting the problem again.

ok, so, i tried using the backup dlls, but i still have the problem. maybe it's a drawing problem...any ideas?
i'm going to try some other drivers..
Soory, but the speed of a PC depends on SO many things its practically impossible to tell whats causing the error. Really. Just any wild guesses with the usual suspects maybe, but its hard to believe they would help you.
If you got a new HDD, make a clean install of your OS besides your present one and see if the problem persists. If not, its been one of the changes you made to the OS... might try to pin it down backwards... whats installed last, before that, and so on...

actually, i enabled onboard graphics and everything is working fine now, but it's still weird to be using a geforce card and onboard graphics simultaneously. hey, whatever works. 
Well, I had basically the same problem...
Until last night when I got fed up with it. I ended up trying to reinstall XP, and it didn't work with different installations, and even after, XP would not boot.
This morning, I figured it out, and now with a brand new, fresh XP, I'm running incredibly smooth and I feel so much greater (ie, QCD used to take about a min and a half to load itself and the 260 song playlist...Now, < 2 sec.)
So, I would suggest doing the same if you've heavily modified many system files for Windows, a fresh start is a GREAT way to go, IMHO.
haha, actually, it was a fresh install on a new, bigger, faster, 8 mb cache hard drive. what bogged it down was the graphics. turned onboard back on (why? it's weird...) and all is well.

ahh, the problem is back! i spoke too soon! i'm going to try to take out my modem and move some cards around. maybe the gfx card is heating up?
i really don't want to do a reinstall. it's been less than a week since my clean install on a new hd! ahh!! :rant:
