Qcd File Type Association

I am unable to change the icon that QCD has set for my audio files... I have tried already:

1. To reshack QCDplayer.exe and QCDIcons.dll

2. Change the icon at Folder settings/File types

Have you got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Ender.

Those icons are in QCDIcons.dll. There is a hacked version of that file floating around the forums of Aqua-soft or AquaXP. Search for them.

The only problem with this is that it changes all file types associated with QCD to the same icon. What if you want to have an icon for mp3's but a different icon for wav files? Is there a way to do this?

Thre is no need to search a hacked QCDIcons.dll file, because I can do it myself.

The fact is that all my audio files have the playlist icon...

Obviously, you can't do it yourself or you wouldn't be asking for help.

LOL, what I said is that I can reshack QCDicons.dll. The point is that either reshacking that file or downloading the tweaked one that was around AXP will not work and I will be not able to customize the icons of my audio files.

You can change the icons in the QCD preferences too. Preferences > File Types & Icons. Check there. :D

So you tried changing the settings in the .dll itself as well as the program preferences...

The only thing I can think of is maybe there is another program changing file icons back to what they were? Winamp maybe? It did happen to me; winamp kept changing music file icons to its default ones.

Or did you try to rebuild the icon cache.

And I know this happens a lot to me. For some reason Windows occasionally decides to switch a bunch of icons around.

I dont know why but it tends to mess with audio file icons a lot.

Maybe it's just telling me that it needs a reinstall..

I guess you could also try using IconPhile to change the icons manually.

Thank you for the replies and the tips, but I have a weird problem with icons here (I can't customize the icon that appers when I use the Drive mount app of theunkown) so I decide to leave them the way they are.

Thank you again.

The problem lies with file association.

When you associate file types in QCD, it makes an association to QCD.file.

Thus, all your audio icons are the same.

To customize the icons for your audio files then requires changing registry settings in order to keep the association with QCD and still have the icon you wish.

Actually I found out that in QCD preferences you can add the a file type extension registered to QCD and the icon you want to asociate to that file type.
