Hi everyone i am seriously considering buying a mac mini... i will most likley buy a a refurbished 1.42 GHz 512 RAM 80 Gig system with a combo drive. Is it worth it to pay around 400-500 bucks for this system. Also i have never owned a mac before I belive that the only extra components i will need are a keyboard and a mouse considering that the system comes with a adapter for my screen from my pc. Is there anything else? Also can i run OS X on a 1280 by 1024 screen?>?
Thinking about buying a mini
yep that screen'l run fine
Thanks for the quick responses guys but is there any reason that i should wait for the intel mac mini? What are its advantageS?
well macworld is coming up a least wait to see what apple are releasing
buying a mac right now is not a good idea-any pc for that matter with vista scheduled for a 4th quarter release and apple moving its sarchitecture to intel
a ppc will be some what a waste of money when you can just wait and get
a yohna mac
Even if you decide to stick with PPC I suspect that they will be cheaper after the macworld x86 release seeing as they will be considered to be superseded stock.
Buying a x86 machine will give you the option of dual-booting Windows- that is one of the advantages. And also the new x86s will probably have better specs and peripherals.
is apple going to continue to support ppc mac's even after the new mac's are released?

Yes, yes they will. Don't think of this as a complete abandonment of the PPC platform. Jobs seems to insist that it isn't, at least (looking back at the Keynote address from a while ago).

even though he insists that the PPC will not be dropped once they have completed the switch. I still doubt that will be the case, they are somehwat forced to say so in order to keep their sales going... don't you think so people?

yeah that's very true, would you buy a product brand new if you knew there would be no support for it in a few months...I know I woulden't!
question: intel processor speed and apple processor speed are very tough to compare, as apple 2.1 GHZ is not a windows 2.1 GHZ and much faster(?), so do you think that apple will release IntelMacs (iMac/mac mini, etc) with 3.0/3.4GHZ Intel processor for the 1.8/2.1ghz Apple?
how much faster can we expect (processor speed wise) from IntelMacs?
There is no official specs on the upcoming IntelMac yet. But according to the folks at ThinkSecret, it is likely that the intel macs will be sporting Intel's newest Centrino Yonnah processors at 1.8Ghz or 2.0Ghz. They've also reported that the intel macs would be announced next week
, let's just wait and see ![]()
