Ideas for the next release..

OK... most of you are prob'ly tired of reading this again and again, but the thing is that wherever I posted this, something went wrong with the site (aqua-soft, harwaregeeks...). So here it is again. By the way, these are things that would make the dock(s) more osx-ish. Loads of features are great, but I think replicating the osx dock is the priority right now.

Enough of wasting your time, so here's the list:

# great but inaccurate dock motion (md)

# drag&drop problems (md)

# deleting icons by dragging them off the dock (md)

# slows down after some time (md+yz). Only on slow computers like mine, I guess...

# inaccurate seperator (md)

# right and left positions on screen (md)

# mobydock control panel should be accessible by right clicking dock, not through the icon

# identify an icon for an app the first time, and md/yz remembers the icon. So, lets say I dont have PS7 in the dock and I have identified its icon once, it should know which icon to pop up in the dock when I open PS7. ()md+yz

# Bouncing icons! (md+yz)

# arrow under running apps (yz)

# Trash problem (yz)

# drag and drop problem (yz)

# menus (md+yz)

# the cool cloud animation when an icon is dragged off the dock (md+yz)

# a little less space between the seperator and the neighboring icons (yz)

# Possibly, opening a url by clickong an icon (Yahoo mail for me, since I dont have POP email)

Can't really think of anything else... Everybody is welcome to post their suggestions too.

- drag and drop problem in YZ? its running perfect and identical to the osx - the same as objectdock (shh..) - i dont see any need to touch it actually :)

- I have a yahoo account and i added a link to the dock pretty much dragn n dropn and thats it. its already a working feature ;)

everything else you suggested is technically whats missing and im with you on that in both docks.

Additions I'd like to see (both docks)

Drag and drop files to icons on dock

- open file with app if the dock icon points to an application

- copy/move file to folder (follow windows conventions) if dock icon points to a folder

Ability to empty trash from dock (don't have to open trash folder first)

Probably hard to do: "Nesting" of dock icons...for example a dock icon named "folders" could be right clicked on to bring up a sub-menu pointing to various folders you've listed for the parent dock icon

D'Oh! Yeah... drag and drop in MD, it sould have been.

Sid, oh, how could I forget the genie..?

About the Yahoo mail, it doesnt work for me for some reason... :(

you know what would be helpful I think is if both docks let you set the number of pixels between each of the icons or at least automatically had the space changed according to how big the dock background was and number of icons... :)

-great but inaccurate dock motion (md),

-inaccurate seperator

-Bouncing icons!

-arrow under running apps

-Trash problem

-Ability to fdrag items on the docked icons and they go into the selected folder.

-menus, such as clicking and it opening up like the start menu.

-and lastly a clock feature

With the following features, put into effect and honed up on the Yz dock I would be hooked and easily drop ideas of using anything else.

Agree with all of you. And the distance between icons arround the separator is most large. It needs to be slowly large than the distance between icons without separator (Y'z). The possibility (in configuration dialog) to hide the real Recycle Bin icon from the desktop (Md / Y'z).

What are you people talking about? The magnification effect is DEAD ON.

Bouncing icons would be a nesicarry addition. :)

The genie effect is not part of the dock in OSX. So, i dont think it would be nessicary, yet. But it would be cool :) The separator is too territorial. It takes up too much space, it needs to be CLOSER to the opposite icons.

Yz, if u see this, keep it up!

Bill, they are talking about MobyDock's Animation, not Y'z
