[help] burning an mp3 cd

bad news: christmas day, my car was broken into and my stereo was stolen.

good news: i just bought a new car stereo which has mp3 capabilities.

so...i'm trying to burn an mp3 cd using nero, and no matter what i do, it will only arrange the tracks by title, not track order. (okay, i can sort by date, length, location...) i've checked through all the options, and there doesn't appear to be any way to fix this. (well, i could go through each album and each track and rename them by adding 1, 2, 3, etc in front of the tracks. NO THX!)

so...

anyone know how to do this with nero OR any other program?

okay...maybe itunes ain't gonna work for me. i was able to burn an mp3 cd with 12 albums, all the tracks in order. but, i couldn't figure a way to group the albums, so my player just sees 175 songs in the 'root.' the remote with my stereo has arrows for left/right (prev/next track) and up/down (prev/next album). so, when burning with nero, the tracks were alphabetical instead of by track number, but i could go from album to album. with itunes, it's just next, next, next, next...

okay, in itunes i just tried the 'grouping' option, setting up albums 1-12, but the results are the same. gonna give windows a shot, see if it'll see the folders and sort them by tack number...

I normally just use Nero and use the CD-ROM(ISO) setting.

Then I add my albums as folders and place playlists at the root of the CD.

This assumes that your playlists will include the correct relative path information.

what format are your playlists? i tried exporting a playlist from itunes and is was in txt format, which nero doesn't like. can you possible pm me an example?

the way i finally got it to (semi)work was to add 01-, 02-, 03- in front of each track. that works, but the display is messy. i had to do the same thing to the album folders to get them in chronological order. surely, there must be a burning prog out there that will let you sort by track number, yes? and drag folders up and down as you like, yes?

okay okay okay! i got it! the problem i had with my first mp3 cd was that i didn't originally rip the cd's straight into itunes. i think maybe i used wmp. but, i just ripped all 5 supergrass cd's straight into itunes, burned an mp3 cd and it came out (nearly) perfect. so, thx applelover for the help!

btw, i notice that itunes tags the songs the same way i was doing manually, i.e.: prepending the track name with 01, 02, etc. so, i guess that's really the only way do it. i was just doing it the hard way!

Just copy all of your MP3's to a CD, just like you would any other file. Don't make it an Audio CD, make it a Data CD. If you're lucky, your MP3 player will support folders and whatnot, so you can organize your music and keep your sanity. Hopefully it will also support ID3 tags :-D.

Or you can just buy a really nice PDA (both Duckie and I have a Dell Axim x50v, and afaik, we're both happy - I know I like mine, and I'm judging by his instane amount of accessories), and use it like an overpriced MP3 player... with the added benefit of being able to put eBooks on it that you can actually stand to read, and even toting along a few DVD-quality movies (okay, 640x480, DivX compressed... but really high-Q stuff).

Unfortunately, I bought the stereo, and *then* the PDA.
