Tagging Redundancy

I thought it was decided a while ago that if you are in (say the) Releases subforum of Wallpapers you don't need a [rel] or [release] tag. Same goes for the Request subform with [req] or [request] tags. isn't it a little redundant, perhaps redundant?

I mean, when I go into the Releases subform of the Icons and Cursors forum, and look for icons, I go there for releases (duh) and all the topics start with [rel], but shouldn't that be a given, especially if I'm already in the Releases subform?

yeah, but it helps in another way.

im constantly checking the site, and instead of going to the forums, i just look at the sidebar with the latest posts.

i like to see if it is a release or just a request.

I agree that is somewhat redundant but i also like tags.

When you go to "New posts" you can clearly see what is a request thread and what is a release at teh first glance.

Besides people don't bother using tags so most of the tagging is done my me and Pe8er and even those who use tags 50% of the time don't bother posting in the Releases sub-forum.

Shouldn't you move the topics into the proper subforum if they don't post in the proper subforum? Tagging something and keeping it in the inappropriate spot doesn't help.

I DO move them AND tag them

Tagging is a 1 sec job and it helps a lot of people. I don't see the big deal around it.

The biggest thing to me, is when you're trying to search for something, it greatly aids in finding old threads if they are tagged with a [rel] or [help] or something.

The main purpose of tags is to make searching easier. You can use [rel] or [release] as one of keywords - blame Seph, he convinced me it was a good idea

i think it would be neat if upon creation of a topic, there could be a selection menu to tag it, and make it so that the user has to pick one of them in order to type out their question.. and of course, if there isn't an applicable tag, then there would be a selection [no tag] as well. .

I rather like tags...I've used them as search terms when finding a post.

Personally, I think tags should stay even when the forum makes it clear what kind of post it is.
