hi all aqua fans out there !
does anybody have the same problem as i have by any chance ?
i have windows xp service pack 1.
so here the strang thing: when i'm surfing the web, my computer suddenly shuts down
and does a restart....and it does that all alone :rant: i just have installed the whole
system new because of this problem and now it's doin this again. all screensavers and
energy savings are deactivated....so where's the problem ?

Windows XP Service Pack = PROBLEMS >.
Check if autoreboot on apllication crash is turned On. Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings and see if Automaticlly Restart is marked. If it is marked, unmark it and your xp should stop rebooting on its own.

I have sometimes a similar problem, but it seems to be an incompatibility with my motherboard or something.
Try checking here:
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer
On the event viewer click on "System" where it offers 3 options "Applications, Security, System"
Once there, search for the time you remember the computer crashed and see what error it was. Its recommended you make this after it crashes/reboot to see what the problem is. Once you know about the specific problem, you can search at google for it or ask here.

"Windows XP Service Pack = PROBLEMS " - No. Ive (and many others) had SP1 slipstreamed (add to the base XP install disk) since it came out. 0 probs. If you have probs I would suggest slipstreaming SP1 into your copy of XP. Heres how: http://www.etplanet.com/download/guides/nero.html
hmm i had a similar problem a while back.. although when i started XP it would just reboot by it self at starty up leaving me with nothing to do on the system! mind you it didnt do it everytime.. but i found out that it started doing this right after i installed a virtual CD ROM drive on my system like the program Daemon tools.. so yo ucan mount ISO or CD rom images on your computer.... after that it just kept rebooting at startup of windows i got rid of the program.. and it has never done that since
but im not sure what could be your problem.... try not installing SP1 next time.. i havnt

The restart thing, oftenly happens at me when I was still using Windows XP Home. And other apps. The BSODs. Blue Screen Of Death. When Automatically restart is activated, (default), you can turn it off and view the error. i wonder what is that deactivated thing? Try reinstalling some components.
If still doesn't work reformat and reinstall OS will do a lot better.
Another thing to consider is your motherboard. When I did my last system upgrade 9 months ago I had the misfortune to buy one of the motherboards effected by the bad capacitors that had been made by a certain manufacturer that stole the electrolight formula from another company. Well they didn't get all of the formula and they ended up making thousands of bad capacitors and many ended up on motherboards. Allot of them ended up on Abit motherboards. That is what I purchased and got all but 2 months use from it and it started to reboot every ten minutes. After doing some checking at work, sure enough I had one of the bad boards. The main symptom of these bad motherboards will be a constant rebooting of Windows XP and Windows 2000. It may reboot right away or wait several minute before doing so. It may or may not make Windows 9x reboot. The motherboard I have still works with Windows 9x but not at all with XP or 2K anymore. So if you upgraded your system and not the motherboard you could have one of the thousands of effected boards. If its a new motherboard than take it back and try another brand. Allot of those bad capacitors are still out there in everything from PC motherboards to TVs. Its just a matter of time before these capacitors start to go and take the products they were built into with them. Just a friendly word on what could be wrong!

so what i've done so far:
i've deactivated the restart automatically option and then this
nice blue screen appeared, which told me that i should update
my bios or i should deactivate the bios cache or i should check
all my drivers...
my motherboard is an ASUS motherboard....it should be quite
good (at least i hope so :shy:
well i will tell you if this blue screen never appears again on my
computer. but i think it will anyway from time to time because of
the fact that i have a microsoft-based computer 
if only i could afford a mac

Well you can look to the ASUS web site an see if they have a newer bios for your motherboard. Actually your board should have come with a utility from ASUS that will go out to the web and find the newest bios for you and download and flash all in just a few minutes. I did it for my new ASUS A7N8X Nforce based motherboard. It worked perfectly. The easiest bios flash I have ever done. The other thing is to go into your bios and make sure that "Bios Caching" is "DISABLED". This will free up the lower part of the system memory. Also make sure "Video Bios Caching" is disabled as well. There was a time a few years ago when enabling these feature actually helped speed the system up but now they do the opposite. Also make sure you are not "Over Clocking" your CPU. This can cause all kinds of trouble. I know from experience. I purchased a new AMD Athlon 2200Xp CPU and discovered that it isn't fully multiplier locked. So instead of changing the system bus up a notch I upped the multiplier so that the CPU ran as a 2400XP. Well everything worked find until a started stressing the system with 3D graphics. Then it started to just lock-up. The CPU was overheating. So I set it back. I am going to get a better cooler and see if it will run at the higher rate when cooled better. Hey every single MHz counts these days. Hope this helps you a little more.
