Idea lost? Mail Checker!

Now that the world has changed,

we all have broadband access, well most of us do.

We all have email services, and "junk mail" is reaching at an all time low; due to the evolution of junk mail processors, and just making it a point to companies that alot of us aren't going to stand for it.

I guess my main question is why hasn't any one built an email checker based on the home answering machine?

The checker would auto check the email every so often.

When it finds new mail, it would then startings making a beeping noise to notify you of new mail.

at that point a little button down by your taskbar "blinks" like an answering machine light.

Now the beeping would not stop, untill you checked your mail, or have put it on silent.

You can also setup filters, so it only alerts you of mail from a list of trusted, or to a folder.

It's the only peace of software not out there yet. (As far as i know)

Maybe it's a dream! :D

maybe I don't understand... but I think this kind of program has been around for ages...

have you searched for mail notifier or mail checker ? :)

I love this btw.

Well mail checkers have been out for a very long time, but not one that alerts you on a constant level, with out you haveing to go to your computer...

I get home from work, after 10 hours on my feet, and the hour drive home in traffic, the last thing i want to do is get on my computer, Id rather lay / sit on the couch, for a few hours. (Awwwww TIVO)

If the mail checker would make a constant beeping sound, alerting me that i have new mail! then I know i have new mail, instead of getting up to find that i don't... reverse that, LOL

are you seeing the vision?

Sorry...but, there really isn't a vision here.:slant:

As stated before mail checkers have been around for a very long time. You either haven't tried many or didn't explore far enough.

Most that I've used include the ability to specify check time, notification by sound - insert your beeps here - or by pop up and the majority have a tray it option.

Either I don't get what you mean? Unless you mean different sounds for different types of mail, etc.?

To be more clear, Ive been to download.com searched all over, and have downloaded many programs...

There's alot of mail checkers out there, but NONE give a CONSTANT AUDIO alert.

meaning every 30 seconds your computer beeps, or makes some kinda noise, alerting you that you have new email.

if your like me, I leave my computer on at all times. I would rather not have to go directly to the computer, to know that i have new email. Id kinda like to hear the sound of the message waiting beep, that home answering machines provide. (Constantly untill you check them)

ok, now I understand :) You mean an annoying notifier. You can probably find something that allows you to run a program on email arrival - then you can run winamp with your annoying beep !

#341676

that might not be a bad idea...

#341680

this is fun!

#341691

Sounds like overkill to me.

Wow, I'm the master of lame jokes.

I understand just what you mean, and it's not such a bad idea if you don't actually spend much time sitting in front of the computer, but want to know when important things turn up. I'd use it, and i certainly haven't seen an aggresive notifier like this, so if anyone has or knows how to make one i'd be grateful to. Could set it up to make an SMS style beep.
