how can i...

a. rename the "compact menu" text to "Search"

b. get rid of the "View: {drop down menu}" and the real search bar toolbar above the message window

In the menu, click on 'View' --> 'Toolbars --> 'Search Bar'

In order to change the Compact Menu text to Search:

Go to

x:Documents and SettingsxxxxApplication DataThunderbirdProfilesxxxxchrome

And open up compact-tb.jar in WinRAR and browse to localeen-UScompact

Open up compact.dtd in Notepad (you may have to extract and then replace it) and change the first line to Search.
