My tastes in Visual Styles change by the week- sometimes I like to use WindowBlinds skins, and sometimes I like to use hacked uxtheme.dll-based Visual Styles. With WB running (I'm currently using WB5) I cannot load a VS. Even if I choose to unload WB first, I still cannot apply the VS. WB just loads again upon re-boot. I must uninstall WB completely before I can use a VS again. Is there a way to use a VS without completely uninstalling WB first?

What happens if you set WB to use Luna before you choose a VS?
I haven't tried this myself, but I figure it might work because the Luna skin option in WB doesn't have any corresponding skin files.

Doesn't work. Tried that with Luna, and the Windows Classic Style.
Download skinstudio and convert the msstyles to wb 
Its very simple, you just double click and skinstudio basicly does the work for you.
Try applying them multiple times (luna and classic).
If that doesn't work, apply the theme and then kill explorer with task manager and until it applies.
Pretty weird, but it happened to me a few times.
to apply visual styles while having windowblinds installed just unload windowblinds and open the msstyle and apply it (using normal procedures outside of wb)....i do that all the time....it works great as i have the choice of using wb5 themes and normal msstyles at my fingertips
to make this process easier you can always just save the themes so that you can apply the whole style without messing about with menus and finding out how to get it working

That didn't work for me. Maybe it was a fluke- I'll try that again when I get home tomorrow.
i do it all the time....i regularly switch from one to the other...make sure you right click the tray icon and unload windowblinds...then just apply the theme you have pre-prepared
I just disable WB from running on startup when I use a mssstyle.
I've just rebooted my machine and everything thing works as expected for me.
- Right-click the WB tray icon and unload WB
- Go to Dektop properties and select the VS you want to use
- VS should apply.
- Reboot. Hopefully the VS will be applied - not WB.
That's pretty much all I did. Worked for me.

oh im talking about windowblinds 5 where you dont need to reboot lol....or atleast i never have to
make sure the "Themes" service is running.
Start>run> "services.msc"
or
Control panel>Administrative Tools>Services

Hold [CTRL] (keep holding) > right-click desktop> display properties> switch to Appearance tab> release [ctrl]. You can now apply the VS without unloading wb.
o.k., followed all of the instructions here. I now have VS' and WB peacefully co-existing- I need to re-boot for the changes to take effect. With WB loaded- when I unload it (or even not unload it)- only part of the VS is applied and there are still WB elements remaining until I re-boot.
I had the same problem with **WB4.5** , but it could load into vs(hold ctrl) easily after unloading **4.6** 
No reboot required .
