Spinning Albumart for iTunes

What Is it?

It's a proof-of-concept, actually. This desklet shows what you are playing in iTunes and as a bonus it flips the albumart. This flipping is actually a test to see how I could implement a proper perspective for the albumart.

You'll need a decent GfxCard which at least supports alpha-blending textures and rendertargets.

Rino, who made the original AveTunes skin with this idea: http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=29718. I shamelessly copied his idea - asked for permission, but he hasn't replied yet. If he's not happy with this, I take it down immediately.

Download & Install

Unzip it into /Desklets, no installer file for now.

Note

Be sure to close the widget before closing iTunes. I am having troubles with _iTunesEvent interface so that's need to wait for a couple of days.

wow, that looks great.

it doesnt seem to be updateing unless i go to a song with no artwork and one with artwork. but otherwise its a cool consept.

pretty cool, dude. first thing i noticed is: the art changes only for a small range of about 5 songs forward and 5 songs back from the first song played. it will consistently change for those 10 songs, but no others.

but yeah, neat!

Yeah it might be heavily buggy - I can't reproduce it tho, just make sure you don't flip really fast - 'cause that might break stuff

It works, unfourtunately I use winamp the most in windows.

When rotatiting the widget, in properties rotation=1 the spin takes longer to draw. Thus, rotation must be zero in order for the cover to spin at full speed.

Can you do this same project with avescripter?

The idea is very nice. I was oing to suggest a feature of custom effects applied to particualr layers in the desklet programming. This makes you to review the principles of effetlets and also creates a problem of very inter-dependent packages of effects and desklets - but this gives more power eventually. IMHO....

This is cool and with a little work it will be awesome. The album art doesn't always change for me, like others have experienced. That's the only problem I've had with it. I think it would be cool to have the option to have the album art spinning constantly.
