What the hell!? 512mb AGP graphics cards?....can this be true?

Now um is it me or is there something fishy about these cards? (im talking about the last two links....the first one is most likely to be rubbish)

Well there's already a 512mb version of the 7800GTX ($700 USD), so I don't see why a 512mb AGP card it hard to believe. Is it worth the money, not even. Very few games are going to utilize 512mb of ram, and any that are you'd be better making the upgrade to PCI-E.

They have been around for awile now... I remember when I picked up my 6800GT 256mb they where out, that was atleast 3-4 months ago.

I would recommend adding more system ram and staying at 256mb cards for now, your games will run better.

well 512MB is pretty common when it comes to PCI-E compatable boards, but this is the first time i heard 512MB is commin to AGP. Do AGP really need that much mem? I understand PCI-E boards using it but not AGP.

i never knew 512mb cards were common to agp thats nuts!....btw would upgrading to a gig for black and white two from 768mb ram make a considerable difference?

Ouch, and here I am chugging along with my FX5500. I need me a job so I can earn some cash and then waste it all again on PC hardware.

On topic, I've seen 512MB cards before, they seem a little OTT for even the most demanding games.

um im trying to play black and white 2 on my pny 6600le 256mb graphics card and im failing miserably....it plays a lot of other games well though (halo, doom3, battle for middle earth, ground control 2, need for speed most wanted). I mean the card was cheap compared to the one that i bought before (6600gt 256mb) but i had power issues with that (i got a shoddy power pack to go with it)

i have a 2.6ghz pentium 4 with 768mb ram of pc2700 memory

you shouldve kept your 6600GT, 6600LE cant hold a candle to that card. what you shouldve done was get a new psu instead.

yerp. Actualy you shoulnd have gotten a 9800 pro for cheap cheap. the RAM on your graphics card makes very little diffrence in preformance (relitive to the diffrence the GPU can make or ram speeds) look at the fx5200 256 meg cards. They suck, a ton of 128mb cards will rape it.

my 128mb 6600gt will cream your 6600le. bottom line it doesnt matter much how much ram you got on a graphics card.

It needs to cash those increasingly large textures so it does need the extra RAM. However, there's no denial that GPU's much, much more important.

i wanted to get a 9800 pro but i cant seem to find one here in britain on the net on well known sites....btw i got rid of my 6600gt due to the fact that it had ghosted effects as well....also i gave up on pc gaming for a while as well....i wanted something that would beat the 9800pro but all i got was crap compared to that....my original card was a ati 9200 128mb card and that sucked more than this card.

i was thinking of going back to a 6600gt but i thought thered be no point as it would be obsilete after the next year due to the game renaissance thats gonna occur in a years time when the pcs step up a gear to compete with the consoles

im now considering getting a 6800gs with a new power supply thanks to you guys lol what do you think?

(it turns out the gs is cheaper than the 6600gt i was thinking of rebuying)

also will a 460watt akasa power supply do?....are akasa any good?

ive seen some 9800PRO's that outbeats the 6600GT, moneywise ofcorse. Performance wise the 6600GT is barnone the best mid-ranged card out. ATi introduced theres alittle too late with little performace boost. The ram in your graphics card isnt being utilized so theres no point in getting 256 bit, let alone 512. Heck they dont even use up all 128. But bigger ranged cards such as 7800GTX's does which is why i find some sense in including more ram in them.

actually im going to stick with what ive got for the moment...there no point upgrading agp as pci express is the new thing now....plus i got my current card from work for £90 pounds which was cheap i know but i dont think theyll like it if i return it as they are a bit iffy like that (pcworld)

yeah agp still has some life in it, which is why nvidia and ati are both bridging there pci cards over to agp as they know theres still a huge number of people out there with agp. we still didnt use agp8X to the fullest and were already using a new slot, that i dont understand.

Quite pathetic i say, he shouldve gave me his XT to me.

his x850xt should have lasted him what a foolish person....im just trying to get my games running at highr resolutions and settings mainly...im in two worlds now....should i or shouldn't i....first things first im taking back my graphics card then ill think about this a bit more and decide if i want to fork out for the 6800gs which will work out cheaper than buying the 6600gt funny enough (but both cards are only on preorder atm)

does anyone know what kind of pwer pack i will need?

edit: lol wait the 6600gt is much cheaper and only a little less powerfull....im gonna get one of those again and hope for the best ....maybe buy a 512mb or ram to replace my current 256mb thats with my other 512mb ram (as i only have two slots)

The 6600GT is more than just slightly less powerful. The 6800 has faster ram and twice the pipelines. Their is a significant difference. I own both, im speaking from experience.

Gaming wise the 6800 is much better. Games like HL2 can be maxed out with a 6800, 6600 I couldnt do. (actually my bro's card lol...)

hmmm well if i spend an extra 50 pounds i can get the gs which is nearly just as good as the gt and less pricey though it only has 12 pipelines....will a 400watt power pack do? or should i use a 460watt one?

And the price is just right. and itll give you all the high res you want man. check out pricewatch for some really cheap 6800GT. I know too as im planning on getting the card sometime in the near future. Okay as soon as i get out of this credit debt

i know man, even the simpliest graphics card will be able to play most games out today. As long as it has directX9 support your good to go, well anything from 6600GT and up anyways hehe.

Games like BF2 needs alittle bit more juice but still the 6600GT is more the capible of handling it. Frankly i just find it really silly if someone spends more then $350 for a graphics card, i mean really must you upgrade your card every 6-12 months?

i dont intend to upgrade my graphics card for another three years....my friends had his 9800pro for three years (the 256bit interface version with 256mb ram) and he can run games like black and white 2 on near full spec without much lag....(but then again he does have a dual pentium 4 2.6ghz processor setup)

Dual processors do nothing in games unless they support it, which most (if any) dont. The only time it really helps is if you are a graphics designer, stuff like that.

Get the 6800 if you arent looking to upgrade for a few years. It will last
