Activate Hotkey by Icon?

Is there any way to activate a hotkey when I click on an icon, or a desklet? I found a topic in the forum but that was for docklets and I'm not sure how you do it.

Which topic did you find? If it's the one I'm thinking about, you use the same method for docklets as for icons/desklets too.

In fact, I'm pretty sure the thread I'm thinking of has nearly the exact same title as this...
