Get Firefox 1.5 to work with any extension.

There is a way to trick Firefox's extension to work with the latest version of the Fox of Fire, yes I'm talking about 1.5.

# At the location bar, enter: about:config. This will show you a list of Firefox internal preferences.

# Right-click on the list, select New > String

Enter “app.extensions.version” (without quotes) for the preference name.

# Then, enter “1.0” (without quotes) as the value for app.extensions.version.

# Restart Firefox 1.5, then enable those disabled Firefox extensions.

# Restart Firefox 1.5 again to active the extensions. Done.

I'm not the original author of this tutorial but I found it a couple of days on the web and pasted it to a text file, I can't remember where I found it... So big thanks to the guy who wrote this tutorial. :)

The problem is that some of the code has changed within Firefox from 1.0 to 1.5. The extensions will all *install*, but they may not necessarily *work*.

I use this extension to get the incompatible ones that I use to work..

Well i only use compactmenu anyway, in which this extension has already been updated for 1.5.

What about themes? Is there a way to get existing themes to work with 1.5? That is more to my liking :D

yeah themes, as i posted in firefox thread today, after installing 1.5 it totally messed up all themes and none seemed to work. i just give a 5 minutes try and then uninstalled to use 1.0.7. to my total satisfaction. total, as always. are we gonna wait to update all themes, which may never come up? hey, guys, the place is a trash bin for 1.5!!!

Ifox work great 4 me !

Hey this is a really bad idea because a number of 1.0 extensions will TOTALLY SCREW UP your Firefox profile if you install them using this method. In addition, you are now telling Firefox to always accept 1.0 extensions, so unless you remember to go back and change this config later to 1.5, this setting will carry over to all future Firefox versions (2.0, 3.0, 4..) that will be totally incompatible with the extensions you forced-installed.

The proper way to do it is to update the extension *itself* not tell Firefox to blindly accept any 1.0. This is called "bumping"

Tutorial to do it the right way is here:

You can also just install already bumped extensions posted on ExtensionsMirror: http://www.extensionsmirror.nl

1.0 themes won't work at all on 1.5 because there were a number of MAJOR interface changes in 1.5. Hopefully someone will pick up the ball and add/edit existing themes to work with Firefox 1.5

Autumnmist: I'm not disputing it, but out of curiousity, what major interface changes were there? I don't really notice anything significant.

right now 1.07 is fine.. but i would really like to get 1.5 for the RRS on the search bar feature ol...

23 page thread on Mozillazine forums documenting 1.0--> 1.5 changes: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.ph...75fb08914e1101e

The main thing we (as general Firefox users) would notice that the entire Tools > Options panel has been rearranged and reorganized. Notice image-buttons on the top instead of along the left side of the panel. Notice complete reorg. of the suboptions.

Tabs are now drag-able. I imagine that must have changed a few things, though I'm not a skinning expert. I know a lot of the CSS code was changed within the theme files and entire files actually were removed entirely.

You think someone will get fusion to work.. i got the xpi in case anyone knows how to code firefox extensions.

It seems as though Clav has ditched FF.

The best thing to do right now is to wait for 2 or 3 weeks tops 'till everybody updates their extensions and make them Fx 1.5 compatible. I use 10 extensions and 7 of them have been updated to work with Fx 1.5.

i use about 30 and they all work great for me..

nightly tools tester is an easy extension to get those that wont work working..
