[Help] -> Getting REALLY Annoyed with iPod

Okay, so i bought a new 5th gen 30GB iPod video.

Let's just cut to the chase.....im currently on my 3rd unit. The first one I purchased, the unit froze on me, I couldn't do anything to it until the battery died.

After that, the volume kept adjusting to either extreme highs, or lows....by ITSELF. Following by the left earphone all of a sudden just deciding to stop working. So i had it replaced.

The 2nd unit now.....the same volume issues were occuring to the point where it was pissing me off, it was happening so frequently. I took it back to the Apple store, and the "Genious" said that this was an occurence happening in some of them. So yet again, I had it replaced.

NOW! With the 3rd damn unit....The SAME problem is beginning to happen again. Like what the hell??? I should have just kept my 4th gen 20GB photo. That had NO PROBLEMS what-so-ever.

Is or has anyone run into this problem?

your not the first i have read problems like this before, you should check out cnet they are running a iPod nightmare section this week, each day is a different iPod related problem, and how to fix it

As for your problem #1 - it's an interference with mobile phones signals. You had your whole iPod replaced cause your left earphone died? You americans are way too spoiled.

You misunderstood. If the problem was the left earphone only....why would i replace the whole unit? That doesn't make sense.

Like I said, the first time I ever purchased the unit and took it out the box to set-up, it froze on me, and had to wait until the unit died for me to actually do anything to it. However, after that happened it started to work, so i thought nothing of it. A day later...the volume would adjust mostly to extreme highs by itself, following by the left earphone cease to working. There have even been times when the battery wasn't at its fullest...however there was some life in it. The unit would just freeze, I checked the earphone chord and everything was securely plugged in, but there would be no sound. It shows that the unit is set to play, but it was as if, it were on pause.

Those are ALL the problems they occured the first purchase, which resulted in me getting a replacement

anyways, your problems are caused by gsm signals which cause erratic click wheelness. yes the new ipod is the only one so far that has this problem because it isn't a thick brick.

so basically you've been returning good ipods that yer messing up with a cell phone. don't keep them close together.

And I would expect the so-called "Genious" at the Apple store to know that the volume issue was due to as you all say interference with mobile phones. But there were other issues with the iPod also. Which is why I suspect he replaced it. Also. I don't own a gsm phone. CDMA

And with reading the posts on the appletalk forum. All those users are saying that they had their iPods close to their phones or in the same pocket. Mines at all times the volume adjusted was nowhere near, or in the same pocket as my phone.

Also..I have a mike phone....or as you Americans are used to calling it. The Nextel walkie-talkie phones.

yeah, i would have to agree that that is just odd. How about a pda? a pager? do you have any other digital goodies that are typically near by?

I think the mike phone could also potentially cause it too. I wouldn't 100% put the blame solely on apples shoulders with the problem.....could be a handful of other things.

YET, as a consumer you are entitled to 100% satisfaction, so maybe just give it back to them, tell them you are entirely unhappy with it, and pick up something different.

As an aside, maybe google around and see if you can find any other users with the same problems, apples boards are always a good place to look as well.

Does this mean that there is less of a chance of interference if you have a 3G phone?
