[Help] iTunes not opening

I log on today and find out that when I try to open iTunes it does nothing which was not a big deal at the time so I remove multi-plugin from it to see if that works, nothing. I remove iTunes, restart re-install and when I click on iTunes to go through the license agreement and such it just flashes it for a second then dissapears. So I ended up doing a System Restore thinking that would work but nothing and I even tried installing on a different drive - anyone have a solution or had this problem before??!

wow thats some weird $hit, try to delete in the registry any values relating to iTunes, back up the registry first

Do you see iTunes on your taskbar or indicated on your dock?

#335445

maybe somthings killing the prosses when u start it.

and nope I haven't seen it in the taskbar or my dock but I see it load in Task Manager up to ~44K then just closes...

well I did my research after posting this and went over to the Apple iTunes discussion forum and apparently this is a VERY frequent problem, at least 2 posts on every page about this kind of think and I've done everything they have suggested:

Reinstalling

Uninstalling then Reinstalling QuickTime

Booting into SafeMode and deleting the potention malware with random 4 to 6 letters that were created on or around today (the 29th)

Disabling Norton

Deleting the file in the SC INFO folder & registry info that goes with it

all I can do now is wait and hope they find another method to fix this

Someone else had the same problem here:

Some guys on another forum suspected a malware issue.

Maybe you two sould get in contact and compare process lists.

I decided to do some light reading at the Apple.com discussion boards...

Question: Have you installed (or has windows/wmp updated) any new codecs lately?

One user there reported success with uninstalling a codec pack they had recently installed.

#335480

I just removed Nimo Codec Pack and my AC3 Filter but no go - and if Windows/WMP has downloaded a codec it didn't alert me

#335605

Odd. When I installed the new version I had the same trouble. So, I rebooted, took out MPlugin, reinstalled iTunes, fired it up and agreed to those terms, then shut it off and put MPlugin back in.

Works fine now, minus a little scroll issue which dates back beyond that though.
