dotWidget going R1.0 - Beta Testers wanted!

After the success of Release 0.8 we've decided to move from pre-release to general release R1.0 and we're going to open up beta testing to a limited number of participants so if having a go on R1.0 before everyone else does floats your boat, now is your ONLY oppourtunity to do so! ;)

I think that we don't need next bloated clone of konfabulator

Avedesk is a King. We only need more widgets

You're discouraging our developers :slant: .

And this isn't a Konfab clone, as it's been around for a while. If you're going to look at it that way, you might as well call AveDesk a Konfab clone.

I'm sorry if I seem rude, but it's really not polite to insult A-S's talented developers--you should at least give him a chance. ;)

@stan.k23--Sadly, I won't be able to beta-test, but I will be looking forward to the general release!

Could I ask you to download and try dotWidget 0.8 first? It uses a fraction of the memory used by Konfabulator (konfab runs each widget in its own process space; dotWidget doesn't). Specific memory usage will vary based on widgets loaded, but is usually around 4MB plus about 500KB per widget loaded. Certainly on my system I've never noticed dotWidget go above 12MB (and that was with a raft of widgets open).

No worries about the beta testing - thanks for the support! :)

I tryied it earlier and i tryied it now of course. Try to understand my point of view. I apreciate you effort. But why all these developers are trying to do the same apps instead gathering on one?? And do one really good. After-effect is that we have teen crappy finder clones, teen crappy spotligt clones etc. and lot of not ended promising apps .It just make me mad & sad :(

Why you are developing this app? For fun? fr yourself? for users? for proving something? i just wonder.

For now, with 5 widgets it eat 20 mb of memory ,avedesk with 10 widgets is eating from 2 mb to 10 ,of course that is better than konfu. Its crashing. Graphics for widgets are low quality (the shadow of welcome widget is just horrible) And i don't see nothing new or innovative (mayby i missed something)

I hope you understand me :) Sorry for my english. It's just critism , i don't want to be rude (maybe a little :P) Peace

P.S NC Avedesk have a lot differences and now its just better than konfu soo im far from calling it a clone

@nicesnake: well, it IS beta. your last post is much better than first, cuz at least we know what you don't like. that's constructive.

@stan: 0.8 runs very nice on my system. i agree with nicesnake that it's not groundbreaking, but the graphics transitions are very smooth...a huge plus! i also cannot commit to beta-testing, but i look forward to the next release. (great, all i need is to be running avedesk, samurize, konfabulator, kapsules and dotwidget!! lord, stop me before i mod again!)

anyways, a little competition is good for the community.

Copmpetition... Hmmm... we will see :P Btw i can comit for beta testing :) And i can also do some nice aqua glosy graphics (with nice shadows :P) i'm completly mad about nice glossy elements and high quality graphic. yummy :D

Thanks for the comments guys! :)

@Nicesnake: I understand what you mean, although dotWidget has been in development for quite some time (since 2003) sadly I just don't have enough time to devote to it. As for my motivations? Well - yes - for fun, for myself, for users and for providing them with an alternative choice. Also, I'd be very interested in some graphics (ours are a bit 'basic' ;) - maybe pm me or mail be off-line? :D
