Aqua-Soft ForumsHey guys I am most likely going to purchase a mac mini soon. The only problem is that i only have enough money for the 40gig 1.25GHz 512mb ram model. I am not going to be using this mac for any large storage purposes. In fact i am not even going to connect it to the internet. I am going to use this mac for customizing and getting a feel for macs. Is it worth it to buy?

it wouldn't be worth it to me, but maybe it's worth it to you. if this is just going to be a 'starter' mac for playing with and not for real use, ask yourself: can i afford a $500 toy?

Mac mini is a decent lil machine and i don't see why he would drop more money on a comp he'd use for surfing.
While i agree iMac is one of the best machines on the market (maybe even the best for the buck) i think it's a bit of an overkill for a surfing machine.
PS I don't see anything "general" about purchasing a Mac.

Well i have wanted a Mac for a long time and being 15 during the school year i dont see any way that i can save up $2,000 for an iMac. All i want this mac for is for it to be my first mac. The only reason im not using it for surfing is because i dont have an internet connection in my room.
have you thought about grabbin a used ibook or something along those lines... i frequent craigslist.org and regularly find ibooks for less than $500. They tend to be G3 in the 800 Mhz range with 128mb ram, however, it would suffice for just dinking around on. Also, being that you are in school, it may be nice to have the portability

why do you want a mac that your not gonna use? Thats stupid. Its like buying a dirtbike for looking at. Do you plan on buying a bigger mac? why do you think you need to 'get the feel' of a mac? whats the point?

Slpasta44, I have a Mac Mini, it's a 1.42 GHz PowerPc G4, 1GB DDR SDRAM, and a SuperDrive. It's a great starter for basic needs. I only had my Mini for 6 months know and now I'm ready to graduate to a PowerMac and probably will get rid of the Mac mini once I purchase PowerMac, So keep me in mine when ready do buy the Mini. It will come with a Wireless Keyboard, Mighty Mouse, and a USB Bluetooth Adapter for the Keyboard. Good Luck with your decision

maan. Wait till macworld and get an intel ibook if they come out (they probably will). Im in a similar
situation to you and I got a mini last year, and its fantastic. Its a really nice comp, but it needs as much
ram as possible remember. Whatever you get try and get as much ram as possible 
but i suggest
you get the ibook anyways.
It will certainly be some expensive toy you would buy, if you do. MacOS X is very much centered around the internet. Or atleast I wouldn't go without connecting it to the internet. Are you just going to download apps onto a cd and then bringing it to the Mac Mini ?
